The 1-2 system is still used in the NAHL, USHL and AHL, till next season when the NHL contract with the AHL has them going all 4 man. It's the same reason that baseball does not use 3 or 4 or up to 6 umpires like MLB does. Peewee football does not have the same number of officials as college or the ...

Nah I got it, just figure someone out there would try it.

As a side not, during some officiating camps we have tried to "radio" to officials on the ice through various methods but have never had a lot of success. Hockey is a loud game on the ice!

This would be a rules violation in every league ever. Just an example from USA Hockey: Rule 308 Electronic Devices (a) The use of one or two-way radios, lights or other electronic devices as a means for Team Officials or spectators to communicate with players or goalkeepers, during play, shall be pr...

Squirt C game. Slow clear rolls down into opponents zone. Goalie comes way out and pounces on puck about halfway between net and blue line, then decides to cover it up when he sees a mix of his and other team's players bearing down on him, though I'd say they are still a good 20 feet away at this p...

To those who feel the refs are so terrible there is a simple solution...become a ref yourself. You clearly have the ability to make perfect calls every time. My guess is you will find out A. it's a really hard job and B. fans and coaches are out of their minds...(and see through biased eyes). Why d...

Wanted to confirm that at the youth (Squirt) level UASH rules allow only one captain and two alternates. I'm pretty sure that the CAHA allows one C and up to three Alternates. Let me first start by saying there is no need for a captain at any youth level until midget/high school. Even at the bantam...

I don't know what constitutes Boarding right now. It seems to me that it is called if the person being hit falls into the boards rather than stays upright or semi upright? I am seeing it called in some games and not in others. Keep in mind that I am not talking about hitting from behind, targeting ...

Reff22, the ref was older (30-40 year old). No nonsense guy. Like I said haven't seen it called that way since. He called it by the book not the "unwritten" book. I feel for refs given there is so much judgement left to the refs. I wish it was more cut and dry. Example charging rule 42.1:...

Nobody wants to say how many Edina took in? Do they have room when it doubles next year? Somebody said a quarter of the kids on the Edina A squirt teams this year.... Is this true? Who cares. Find something better to do with your time then worry about how many kids moved to Edina this week. We get ...

Re: Reebok HP 16s - Tryouts/Rosters

Something like 65+skaters and 7 goalies (Cha-ching Minn Hockey) You're not the only one who hears the cash register bell ring with these kind of numbers. The families of those who make the cut and represent 1A/AA at the next level "festival" will be looking at another round of tryout/regi...

I know that too many people think that Minnesota Hockey is the best hockey in the country. What you saw at Breamar is the way that the rest of the country plays hockey. It's a phisical game. Get out and watch some high level AAA WINTER teams and what you saw at at Edina this weekend still looks like...

This is a tragic article that you wrote. A complete attack on Edina. I know this team is not full of sweet innocent kids that have not taken a penalty all year but you spent the entire article focused on the penalties they took and not on them winning. You attack adult officials and hide behind your...

If there are squirt limits how can they have the "Squirtacular" over in Bloomington this weekend withe the top teams in the state? This is a non-USA/MN hockey sanctioned event. Officials do not have to be certified. There will be no insurance coverage from USA Hockey. In essence this is t...

Trying to call a goal from the red line after a blocked shot at the other end is pretty hard for any ref. Covering 200 feet when the puck has a 100 foot head start? The back linesman is responsible for assisting the ref in this situation and cover down deep till he can get there. Oh and those guys ...

Seems to me they broke clearly written rules. I hear a lot of boo hoo BS. Is it fair probably not but stop blaiming everyone else. It's just like parents who blame teachers and admins when their kids get in trouble. You broke the rules, pay the price.

For the 6th time in a row the option for USA hockey to add the option to use the 2-1 system was put infront of the rules committee for use. It was again there year recommended for defeat. lOne of my least favorite expressions applies here. It is what it is. Minnesota teams and Michigan teams don't use the same age cut. That said, this makes sense. Edina would be overmatched by 1999s, so why go to Michigan if they would have to schedule lesser programs. The fun part is going up again...

3 points 1. Do you have to have a losing record to be "developing" kids? 2. 10 teams, isn't that a good thing that so many kids are playing a sport, building relationships and skills, discipline and talents that will help them well beyond their playing days? 3. If you really don't care, w...
