Bring your auger! :D

My guess is that Memorial weekend will be better fishing then the opener.

Don't know about ice fishing in May, suppose you could take your boat out to the big ice slab and drill a hole and fish.

Most people are Deer hunting, all Deer must be shot according to the DNR.
Helicopters, spotlight, baiting any way you want.

Who would of thunk it.

Your right, same old..... same old, except they encourage all these illegal hunting methods.
As kids we had to be careful not to get caught. :D

I remember once or twice in the 70's when it was iffy that the ice would be gone for the opener, but it always was.
One year it was down to the last few days before the ice was off Winnie.
This year is unbelievable. Probably gonna be at least some ice.

It will be open water somewhere.

They will be shallow and lethargic. Fish in 5 -10 feet and bounce off the bottom or retrieve real slowly.

If that doesn't work.....try something else.

A local Bemidji radio show had a DNR person take questions from listeners. One of the questions was, "If you are standing on the ice and casting into open water, can you use two lines?" The answer was no but I thought it brought up a debateable point on what constitutes ice fishing and open water fishing.

The mind is a wonderful thing!  That's Great!
So you can't cast one, and drill thru the ice and set a tip up ?? :?

Looks like there won't be many boats on Lake of the Woods for the opener, unless it's hitched to the back of a bombardier

Drove by Leech Lake yesterday and there were 4 guys ice fishing . There was 10-15 feet of open water around the shore, but it was mostly frozen over. The ice was off most of the smaller lakes. Let's hope some nice weather this week will finish off the ice so we can have a good weekend of fishing :D.

Well did anyone catch anything? here in the metro area it was pretty miserable in the afternoon Sat.
I didn't go fishing but wanted to know if they were biting, and where.

Mrs. Paul and myself enjoyed a tasty shore lunch near Lake Minnetonka. My buddy Gorton was invited, but couldn't navigate his way back in from the choppy waters... hope he's ok.
