Vanelli?? Maybe as a forward. I saw 4 of STA's games this year all 4 games i saw he was out of position more than anyone on the ice. One mans opinion but statewide and even on his own team there are alot better D than him. Hmmm???

The pioneer press is very east metro and also alot goes by the state tournament. If your team is there your looking solid to make a high team. For some reason that is just how they work I have seen the same out of them for football, soccer, basketball. Even if you have a good state tourney though you don't make it they just do an overall poor job of picking solid teams.

As I recall, Cecka had more goals and assists than Furne did this season (and it wasn't even close until the tournament). One nice state tournament does not make or break you as "All State worthy" in my opinion. Cecka led the state champions in scoring... what more do you want from the kid? He scored eight more points and three more goals than Nick Larson did last year and he was the Metro Player of the Year.

I think the teams were very fair. Not sure I'd put Wigen up there on the third team, and in the story, it says Leivermann was the highest scoring Scarlet (not true, Ricky Litchfield was), but I think the teams were pretty fair.

Kind of obvious that you did not see Furne play other then in the tournament. How he played in the tournament is how he played every shift of every game the entire season. Cecka is a good player. However I would take Furne over him any day.

Actually I did... Furne's a great player. But how can you deny a guy that had more goals AND more assists and played on the same line? Plus, Furne can't skate.

Big goals? Like the game-winner against STA on Hockey Day Minnesota (Cecka should have been given credit on the tying goal as it went off Saintey's skate not off Kohls)? The game-winner the first time against STA? The slap-shot against Lakeville South that buried the Cougars? The breakaway goal against Roseau that buried the Rams?

On the goal Furne had with .1 seconds left against Edina, he even gave all the credit to Cecka for his forechecking effort. Furne is a good player and had a great season and a great state tournament... but I'll take Cecka.

I actually think this was a truer judge of talent than the star & tribune. Nice to see Gleason getting the recognition he so well deserved.

I'd also take Furne over Cecka. Seems like more a complete package in the games ive watched, and a good leader (earning the C - i didnt see it on Cecka's chest). In regards to the Pioneer Press, kind of odd not to see Buddish, Everson, Student, or Barnes. All put up pretty good numbers while playing good competition.

The Lee on the first team is actually Anders Lee from Edina not Mike Lee from Roseau, so the Pioneer press did show Mpls some love. I was suprised at how different this All State team was from the Tribune's team.

The Tribune's team was only an All-Metro Team.

I don't think any of you guys would be satisfied no matter who picked the All-State Teams and no matter who did and didn't make it.

Brown was a Mr. Hockey finalist and was 2nd in AA in scoring, Zepeda is a bit of a stretch I thought he had more points than he really did but could still make a strong case for honorable mention, O'Neill had a real good year with 51 points on a good team, Mueller had 55 points and many felt that he should be a Mr. Hockey finalist, Furne is the best skater on the best team in the state, and I just realized that McManus as a D-man is a pretty big stretch after his team gave up 8 goals in the section finals. I will admit, though, that I would have a very difficult time picking this team as well. I can't argue with most of the picks because they are very good players, but I don't get how the leading goal-scorer in AA (Everson) doesn't make at least the 3rd team, especially considering the schedule Edina played this year. I also have no idea how the leading scorer in all of AA, Danny Mattson, isn't even honorable mention. If I could change just one thing with the team selection, Student would replace Vanelli. That's just my opinion, take it as you like.
