Hey Peterpuck - your comments regarding the Edina U14 girls are atrocious. If I had to guess, you're another bitter mom who has a kid that lost to a team that practices more, works harder, and wins. You can bitch about attitude, money, snobbery, etc all you want. Hard work and skill win games. You probably lost in the 12's as well?

Atrocious? But are they true? If Peters comments are accurate, then the behavior was atrocious. If not, then he's a liar.greenhockeymom wrote:Hey Peterpuck - your comments regarding the Edina U14 girls are atrocious. I don't think anyone is questioning the hockey skill of the U14's, it's the attitude that some players (and parents) exude. Players from multiple opposing teams this year have mentioned the nasty smack talk that comes out of some of their mouths. If Edina does not have respect and good sportsmanship toward their opponents, how would anyone expect kind words and accolades back to them, even if they are a good team?Bluewhitefan wrote:Atrocious? Wow - do you really believe that when your kids come off of the ice, after having lost, and tell you that the Edina girls are nasty, that it's true? Believe me when I tell you that we hear the same thing. Swears and completely inappropriate remarks are commonplace. The worst part, is that we know it comes from the parents. The parents care way more then the kids and routinely make stuff up, while secretly harboring the desire that their own kids were just as good....
Yes I do, and I've heard your Edina gals OUT LOUD in the entry area say stuff to our girls (at many games). So yes, you are poor winner.greenhockeymom wrote:Wow - do you really believe that when your kids come off of the ice, after having lost, and tell you that the Edina girls are nasty, that it's true? Nothing against Edina (some of my best friends are from Edina), but I think the flavor of this post is what turns off some of the rest of us.greenhockeymom wrote:Wow - do you really believe that when your kids come off of the ice, after having lost, and tell you that the Edina girls are nasty, that it's true? In Edina: the kids practice more and work harder; the kids care.
No In City of Edina: the parents care way more than the kids; the kids don't care.
Edina: the kids swear and make innappropriate comments, but that's what kids do.
NICE: the kids are fed a bunch of swears and comments by parents.
NICE: the clincher: we "secretly harboring the desire that their own kids were just as good", which some of us, less geographically fortunate, read as 'we adults wish we were as good as Edina adults'.
This is sad.greenhockeymom wrote:Wow - do you really believe that when your kids come off of the ice, after having lost, and tell you that the Edina girls are nasty, that it's true? Thank you, greenhockeymom, for unwittingly validating all of our experiences with the Edina parents and players. We know where the players get it, but we all already knew that long before you just proved it.
To help you understand one more time:
It's not the fact that Edina wins alot that causes others to hate Edina. It's the fact that they have no class when they win, and have even less class when they lose.
For example: leaving the ice and not paying any respect to the other team as the other team receives their trophy after having beaten Edina in a tournament.

So.....aren't you doing the same thing here? Showing a lack of class, that will be undoubtedly picked up by more daughters in other communities? I'm a long way from Edina, but I will say that I don't believe that parents being the ones to introduce all this garbage is owned by any one community. I've seen some of the most class ever displayed by Edina parents and coaches, and yes I've seen the bad too. To say that this is an Edina thing is silly. You can go to just about any rink or community and watch the horrific parental influence on the game. The good news is that it seems to be one or two parents now days, and not the whole contingent (although I fully acknowledge that happens too).U14ABystander wrote:Thank you, greenhockeymom, for unwittingly validating all of our experiences with the Edina parents and players. The bottom line is that the kids/players are supposed to be competing in a game. As hard as it can be to get the players to compete, it just never seems to be a problem to get the parents to compete. Maybe if the parents were more civil and controlled in their desire to compete, the kids would be more interested in competing on the ice.
I watched a 10U-B game the other day. I had almost forgotten how little, unskilled, and innocent they are. Girls having fun, falling all over, scoring goals and putting their arms in the air. Parents getting pissed at the refs (OMG), faces getting red and angry when something didn't go their way. This game was not in Edina, and soon enough the players will take on the immature behavior of the fans. Believe it or not, many of these young girls will be calling each other b****es in a few years. This is not a hockey or Edina problem, it so much bigger than that.

Your point about this kind of behavior not being unique to Edina is sadly correct. I think where the earlier posters are trying to go with this is that arrogance and poor sportswomanship is SYSTEMIC in that association, and they make no apologies for it. They acknowledge it and encourage it on the ice in a way most of us haven't experienced with other teams.
Ex. Last years 12uA state tourney banquet at Breezy - hc gets up to the podium without his team (who were "sleeping in") and starts his speech with something like "I know you all hate me but...." Another coach yells out "we don't hate you we just hate Edina." Do you really take as long on stage talking about and congratulating your team who couldn't even be bothered to attend? Getting to state is a big deal for most teams and they act like it. Versus the ho-hum attitude, been there did that already, shown by that coach.
We've all seen and heard the petty crap that can surround this game, from Edina and a lot of other teams at times (mostly when they play Edina...) But IMHO Edina institutionalizes and teaches this attitude in a way that other programs don't. Greenhockeymom seems to be the rule not the exception.
And of course there are Edina coaches, parents, and players who are being unfairly lumped in with this group.
In closing I will say that the true test of parenting, and coaching to a lesser extent, is how your kids behave when you are not with them or watching.

Well believe it or not, I've seen worse State Tournament banquet and game behavior from coaches that were not from Edina. These players are not the first to not attend a State Tournament banquet. My point is that whenever the parents or coach, put a trophy and bragging rights, above the well being of the children, these things happen. I have yet to meet a 12 yo girl that was not "taught" to act like a jackass. Edina is far from leading the way in this regard.Nevertoomuchhockey wrote:Your point about this kind of behavior not being unique to Edina is sadly correct. I promise not to post again on this thread, but in closing I will say that the true test of parenting, and coaching to a lesser extent, is how your kids behave when you are not with them or watching.

I think they are leading the way. They didn't get that rep for nothing. The anecdotes are notorious and you would be hard pressed to find anything similar - top down - than what we have seen there the last few years. I get your "it's rough all over" sentiment, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find another team (at least on the girls side 12,14s) that is just as well known for its attitude than its talent.

At least the girls' program is taken seriously
At least the Girls' Program is taken seriously in Edina. We just had to switch our daughter from the Girls program in her association (in an unmentionable very large nearby city adjoining Edina) because that association just doesn't put the resources into its Girls program - even though they promote it as this wonderful thing that is growing and that they want to grow more.
The coaches are all volunteer dads, the stuff on the ice are blow up balls, rings and plastic pucks (for u8 players!), and the practices never start on time, plus kids flop all over the ice and are never told to get up and do the drills. We switched her over to the boys' program and it was like night and day: much better coaching (hey! A former NHLer even!), only one coach related to a kid on the ice, structure, discipline...plus, real pucks and NO "bath toys" as I started calling them. Practices start right on time and there are actual scrimmages and real games.
The Girls' Program doesn't even have games scheduled and they never divided up the teams into jersey colors because they didn't want people to feel like they were picking "levels". COME ON. Seriously? Give them a goal - let them work up to it - LET THEM KNOW HOW GOOD/NEED SOME WORK THEY ARE.
...Or they'll jump ship and skate with the better organized team and have a blast with the organization, discipline and structure of it all. All in a different colored jersey during an actual game when she scores her first real goal. THAT'S HOCKEY. \_

Still can't win the big one. like I have said before, nice development at the youth level. It's all about winning championships at the youth level for the GreenMachine, but when it comes to the "real" tournament, another failure to even qualify. All these girls have won multiple youth championships with "stacked" teams, move ins, shortened benches, you name it politico. But you can't even get to the prize to try and capture a HS Championship, the one that actually counts!

Peter, how ‘bout cutting The Edina HS team some slack. It was a great game against the #1 seed and EHS outshot them and could have won, just didn’t bounce their way. They played with class all year and in the very end. Given the adversity this team had early in the year, I’d say they had a great season with some great wins against some of the best. Credit also to the coaching staff that jumped in to help Slominski right before the season started. Not an easy task to jump into.
It sounds more like you have a beef with the direction of your youth program so its best to go direct to the association with issues, otherwise show some respect to the H.S. girls that I’m sure worked hard all year and put out a great season for their community. Worth noting, it is never ever easy getting to State no matter how good you are. Hats off to to a great and gutty Edina high school team.

Coulda Shoulda Woulda My comments are directed towards Green Hockey Mom so please do not take offense. Work harder Skate Harder train harder like no other girls do this to prepare to bring down the Evil Empire
As far as the HS girls I am sure they played hard, especially playing one line. But stop with excuses, the better team won, not adversity or out-shooting them, the better team won. I know that is very hard for you to realize, especially when you are not use to losing and getting your way all through the youth level. The better team won, they beat you 3 times this year.

You couldn't be a bigger loser
Peter - congrats to you on your home town win. Now do me a favor and and show your posts to your shrink and let her tell you what a nutcase you are.
Or better yet, tell your chiropractor that the reason your back hurts is because of the size of the chip on your shoulder.
Really - what's wrong with you?
