Indabox,
What does that mean? Have you watched Robert play? Is this some jab on prep schools or what? I was there with my kid this weekend and last and Robert one of the best 16 or 17 goalies there period. His team had a rough game vs. the 17 White but he was solid and fun to watch. You were almost wishing his team could help him out a bit. We have known Evan for years and there isn't a nicer, harder working kid than him. The SSM jab unnecessary as he is a Minnesota boy too. He made athletic saves this weekend that no one else did. I hope he moves on.

Was not a jab at the goal tending at all, I also have known the Roberts for years, and Evan is an awesome goaltender and a great kid. I also watched section 1 all weekend, and if it wasn't for superb goaltending and defense they wouldn't have won the tourney, they shut out as I'm sure you know a loaded section 6 team. They took 3 forwards from section 1, 2 from SSM and 1 from Lakeville, I thought there were 2-3 more that were deserving, some names on section 6 that made it were non factors, not sure what some of them did in there other games, but they didn't show up for the biggest game! Not sure how anyone took this as a jab at goaltending. Some who made the cut, could of stayed home, and I have nothing against SSM.

16 vs17 Blue Red Brawl?

Post by dogeatdog1 »

How come no one is commenting on the 16 v 17 game and the two ejections that happened? This was embarassing for MN hockey to have a game at this level and this showcase get out of hand. The fact that a kid got kicked out of a game in the festival two weeks in a row is unacceptable. This is what the HP program is promoting?

For those of us that weren't there, can you provide details?

I did see some undisciplined and dirty play as 17 Red went down to 16 Blue yesterday. Not much focus on the task at hand by 17 Red. The loser team was more interested in dirty shots to the head, even a kick, etc. Two ejections which is hopefully the end of the process for the violators.

For those that don't know the 16s and 17s play two games agains their own age level and one crossover game against the other age level. During the Sunday Games I saw the last two the play got pretty physical. Both games were close and in the second game the 16's actually beat the 17s. As Both games went on there were more and more penalties called and especially in the second game there were a ton of big hits both during play and after the whistle. Fidler from the Red team was ejected from what I heard is the second time in two weeks. ( I can't believe that at this level the evaluators would move someone on to the 54's after this). Another player on the 17's (Not sure of the name) was ejected after tearing the helmet off a kid and punching him while he was on the ground. There was blood on the ice after this incedent. The penalty shots were a joke with kids skating around like mites trying to gain an advantage to catch the shooter and others blocking out almost coming to blows. The kids were slashing on both teams and hitting late without even going after the puck. Refs totally let it get out of hand. Not a good show for MN hockey elite players.

It did get ugly but to say it was the entire Red team is not right. It was a select few on the Red team and some on the Blue squad as well. The vast majority of the players on the ice were playing good clean hockey.

I don't believe they miss many but they do miss on some kids, and if some of the selections are based on something other than performance. Which I believe it is, that's messed up, They must forget these our the kids being messed with, life's not fair right? Guess you just have to believe in the end the cream will rise to the top! Needless to say I'm one that wasn't happy, now go ahead and let me have it!

Oh, I don't know; if my kid was hurt in a fight with this Fidler kid, I'd be letting USA Hockey et al have it for allowing him in the 54's after his previous antics.

The scrappy one is just trying to cover all his bases and show off his skills as there were certainly eyes in the building from the Dub. Not a Reebok jacket but pretty easy to spot. Would think the waiver players/parents sign would result in a DQ from further participation after the first incident.

To bad he had to take a spot, when some other kid would have appreciated the opportunity more.
