Not the best indicator for future state section difficulty but the following sections had these % of players cut from their rosters:

Section 1 - 67%
Section 2 - 56%
Section 3 - 83%
Section 4 - 61%
Section 5 - 78%
Section 6 - 56%
Section 7 - 83%
Section 8 - 50%

By this calculation Section 8 has the deepest pool of talent followed by Section 6 and 2.

Section 1 would be higher if you take the Shattuck players out. The talk is that the Shattuck players already have a spot on the final 54. You have to wonder how many spots are even available and what the process is? If the players are being evaluated why aren't they given some form of evaluation on what they need to work on.

There are spots taken, all the way to the national camp, before the first puck is dropped.

Good point about a record of the player's evaluation.

They all did from section 1, they always have. I'm not aware of any from other sections that didn't make it.

Eval on your player: Thanks for the $$! Why don't they just send out the rosters and forget the try outs? Everyone knows it's pre selection anyways

Save your money and buy your kid a new stick - words can't describe how bad this thing stinks. In prior years they sent out a 10 word "eval" of your kid's strengths and weaknesses, barely legible - well worth the money.

Goalies

Post by Stars67 »

Below is how the goalies finished statistically this past weekend. I attended as a observer and thought that stats were very indicative of the play. I am shocked by a few of these selections of players who REALLY struggled this past weekend... Curious to see how this plays out because one of the goalies who struggled was a national camp participant last year, will he be one of the automatic bids sent to the national festival? I feel bad for 2 of the goalies not listed in this group who I though did a fantastic job last weekend. One of them being on the Championship team. Only time will tell. Overall I do feel that this group of goalies is one of the better ones seen in the past few years. Very good size and athleticism throughout.

Agree both 17s and 16s had a good crop of goalies this year - I saw that championship game for the 16's....Lakeville goalie Pierce Wilson was stellar in completing the shutout win for Section 1, then got skipped over completely after finishing 3rd for save % for the weekend. Who knows how this stuff works!!

Agree spots are already taken, also how does a player make it when he was -7 in one game?! and missed all the penalty shots that his coach told him to take (6 penalty shots for the weekend). I thought whoever got tripped or slashed, that player would take the penalty shot. NO my kid didn't make it because he 's not good enough not a problem, but at least give it to a kid that deserves to go.

Now that is some funny stuff. As the saying goes, you just can't make this stuff up. -7 in one game? He has to be cut or the process is a joke.

All prior years the player that created penalty took penalty shot. If this is now the coaches discretion that is an issue/problem.

As far a goalie selection personally would not base on save %. Yes that would be a factor but goalie overall skill would be top rating - position, movement, recovery after save, puck handling, etc.

Was there really a player with a -7 in one game who made the cut?(hockey8543) If so, who?
If Wilson was cheated (oldgoalie85) who is on the list that should not be there?
Are there players who make it to NY that are not involved in the tryout process? (Anyone)

HP 16 and 17

Post by hockeyoldtimer »

Wilson was cheated in the process but did you really think they were going to leave Klaers or Ahrens out of the mix? Come on! They could have stayed home in bed and moved on. They were last year's 15 choice and were moving on no matter what. This will continue to Nationals too even if Robert, Berger, and Driscoll stand on their heads. Politics are politics boys.

Evan Robert was the best goalie I saw all weekend. 16 or 17! He was square to every shot and made every save look very easy. I look to see big things from him as he moves forward. Very impressive to see a 'tendy from SSM with this kind of talent and tenacity.

Robert did look really sharp in the championship game and obviously had a great tourney with those numbers(though I didn't see the other two section 1 games) The Robert/Wilson combo looked to be the best tandem in 16's.
