oh this is good.... I havn't had this much fun reading the forum in a long time!!!! D1 college coach is using his influence on a recruit to leave early so that his sons high school has a better chance to make it to state???

Ah, the tangled web. That may be the best angle yet. Love a good conspiracy theory.

Rau

Post by northwoods oldtimer »

The Rau kid left Eden Prairie late no question but I think teams were on to Eden Prairie last season. Shut down Rau, shut down Eden Prairie. This team is not that deep in scoring. The super sophomore group has leveled off. Minnetonka proved it and teams will do so this season with or without one kid so now it is time for EP, the team to get it done. Too bad it happened so late with the move to Sioux Falls as this should have been done by fall. Time for the remaining kids at EP to step up and take on the challenge, hope they can.

Shut down Rau? 39 Goals, 36 assisists = 75 points...

So you are saying it is ok for Lucia to go back on his word or force him to head for the USHL?

You are saying this late decision is fair to his Eden Prairie teammates?

Are you saying that being informed the day before tryouts is not late notice?

What exactly are you saying?

Are you smoking the crack pipe or are you getting momma's second hand smoke?
What a slap in the face to his former Eden Prarie teammates!!!! I could see making a decision a few months ago, not a week before the season. How many teammates might not have stuck around if they knew he would be gone?
That's a bunch of crap. You make your own decisions on what's best for you at the time. You don't make it on an assumption of what your teammates are going to do!

Nobody knows what was said last spring but Lucia and Rau. There are a half a dozen reason why this could if changed; we are just not privy to those reasons

Late decision/early decision, it still the same situation for his -1 Rau EP team mates

Bad timing to find out the day before high tryouts-yes, but perfect timing if you are looking at the college commitment early signing period of last week, as that was decision week for both players/coaches if they were going to sign a scholarship agreement to play in 2011-12.

What I’m saying is that most of your threads seem to have an undertone theory of conspiracy or collusion, when in reality they are pretty b/w. Seemed like koho#1 might be a first cousin of yours

And yes, I’ve talked to ma several about not smoking while I’m in the car. At least she rolls the windows down now…

It's the the real world. Take the time to scroll through the Who's leaving topic on this forum, kids leave. Even though Eden Prairie is a strong program they have had quite a few choose other Hockey options the last few years.
Fact is that they more than assumed that he would be their teammate. Fact is that they all had high hopes for this year. They assumed they were going to shoot for a state title...

Glad you agree! If you read back.... all I said is late notice, shock for teammates, coach should not go back or have a kid go back on his word. Fact or conspiracy?

Is Lucia the new front runner for Mr. Hockey?

Those of you that ripped Lucia in this situation have egg on your face once you read his dad's comments in the article above.

Lucia is worthy of criticism in a number of respects (I'm right there with people on some topics). But making kids leave HS early is not one of them.

Wow, an intense 48 hours for KR. I for one commend his decision to stay in HS. You are only a HS senior one time.

If you go back and ask guys who have opted out, I bet a many would say, I really missed my senior year and hanging with my buddies, going on dates, etc....

In the case of KR, a promising D1 career, top NHL draft status, and a possible highly lucrative pro-career will always be there. Just ask Nick Leddy.....

Don't believe everything you read. Watch for news on another Lucia recruit related to his clumsy handling of this situation.

If you are hinting at the situation I heard about last week, I'm not sure I consider that a big deal in the long run. My opinion.

MN Hockey Hub has an interview with Lee Smith up: http://www.mnhockeyhub.com/news_article ... r_id=32760

Certainly a crazy day for Kyle and EP hockey. I usually try not to pass heavy judgment on players' decisions to stay or leave since I don't like to pretend I know what was motivating them. But in this case, I do think Kyle got it right...his ex-teammate Nick Leddy offers him the perfect example of what he can achieve by staying at EP and being a star. It's a win for Kyle; it's a win for Eden Prairie; it's a win for Minnesota High School Hockey.

Enough drama for now...let's get this season started.

The end of that interview made it sound like Don was behind it.

Quit blaming the college coach for wanting to get his recruits as battle tested as possible and Don Lucia always leaves it up to his signees as he states.

But after they enroll at the U and come to practice if they are not ready they may not get as much of a roll on the team.. that is the question. I think Kyle will do well no matter what. but the College coach should be able to tell his recruits what he thinks is in their best interest.

Why tell them they are as ready if they play HS vs USHL when they will not be? I do not see why that is a bad thing to tell our boys. I feel there is a battle between the USHL and MNSHSL and that the players lose.

I have no idea what you heard last week but there is another U recruit that was knocked off track by this situation. Does Don just say "never mind" now? Also, what do you expect Papa to say?
