It seems the very big associations (say 8 or more squirt teams like Edina, Wayzata, Stillwater, Eden Prairie, WBL, etc...) have few if any kids that return for their second year. I know several of the coaches like to have at least 2 to 3 returning players so they will keep a few but most often all but a couple move to Pee Wee's the next year.

Most of the kids do tend to be 99 kids on those teams this year with a few 98's just do to the split of ages in the minnesota system. Certainly some classes come through and make it tougher to make it as a first year squirt and thus there may be 100% turnover on some of the larger association teams.

I think the interesting thing is that the smaller associations seem to be able to hang better in squirts than when the kids get older, I think this is likely because you can get by with teams of 13 kids and one good goalie in squirts easier than at the older ages.

A few really good kids at this level can carry a team much more than at the older ages. This year it seems to be the same, Wayzata and Stillwater are good because of depth and overrall team skating (guessing most of these kids go to pee wees next year just looking at their size and overall top to bottom abilities) while some of the smaller associations live on having fewer kids but having their best on the ice more time.

Edina and WBL have some smaller kids this year so I am guessing they have more kids returning next year than normal...however I believe Edina has several kids playing on the fire which may skew their team this year toward having more younger ones.

Just a few observations!

With the school year birthdate to some degree being September 1 it would seem 98's may only cover 4 months of squirt a's rather than 7 as I suspect most kids will initially skate with classmates versus truly going by July 1. Hope that makes sense.

Score from last night... Waconia 7 - Minnetonka 4. Very fast-paced game, with two good teams.

Hey Marty Moose, looks Waconia has a nice team, any other scores to report?

How have they faired against teams like Edina, Eden Prairie, Elk River, Stillwater, Bloomington??

Congrats to Monti for getting a goal. According to STMA website they have scored 53 goals and given up only 2 in the 8 district games they played. I hope they pick up the tougher teams before Fargo.

I hear the Fire might be looking for something, might be a good prep for Fargo for STMA.

Yes, Waconia has had a nice year so far. I don't know the exact scores, but I know Waconia beat EP and Edina (both very even games), tied Jefferson (in EP tourney), and lost to ER. Have not played Stillwater. Lost to STMA (in EP tourney) and to Prior Lake. Speaking of that, I don't see PL mentioned here very often, and they really have a nice team!

Wow! Woodbury Squirt A must have come a long way this year.

They had a rough one in Edina and now make it to the Championship in WBL and have a very respectable score in the Championship vs Wayzata.

I wouldn't put that much value in District 8 games

That score is correct: Edina 6 EP 1 not many would have predicted that one.

I was at the rink last night and saw chaska/Chanhassen was beating Edina with about 3 minutes left to play and CC was up 4-2. Edina was pulling goalie. Anyone have the final score?
