Strange how last years HOT topic on this board was constantly squirts. All we read of was how good Rosemount was and would anyone beat Edina. This year seems to be quieter. Pretty sure that means 1 of 2 things; 1) We will hear a lot of peewee chatter this year form the graduated Squirt people or 2. The season is young and the squirt chatter is only beginning.

Two years ago I posted some squirt stuff and got flamed from a few posters that the only squirt talk allowed here was Squirt A leading up to the Fargo tournament and Pee Wee and Bantam A ruled the board. Now it seems Squirts, some Mites, Pee Wee B1 and even Bantam B1 are the more active threads.
Times change.

i have not seen any Choice League updates as of yet. That dad must have moved onto peewees by now.
A few good squirt teams from a trny, chatter, and scrimmages, I know there are others. Perhaps a post to just to list squirt trny winners would be warranted.
EP, Hermantown, Rochester, Farmington, Elk River, Burnsville, Eagan.

Choice Squirt League is doing fine. 7 teams this year versus 4 last year. With more kids, the overall talent appears to be more spread out from top to bottom across most of the teams. The level of play is good, and would be competitive with most associations' squirt A level. However, since the Choice teams are intended to be balanced within the league, none of the Choice squirt teams are as deep as some of the top association squirt A teams.council member retired wrote:i have not seen any Choice League updates as of yet. Since Choice hasn't been quite the topic it was last year, maybe some of the parents who had the biggest issues with it moved on to PWs.

Isn't this post about Top A Squirt Teams? To put choice league in the thread is a stretchplay4fun wrote:Choice Squirt League is doing fine. 7 teams this year versus 4 last year. Hopkins Tournament Squirt A Championship Saint Michael/Albertville 3 Elk River 2 in a double overtime shootout. STMA was without one of their top forwards. Third Place Edina 8 Rochester 3 5th place went to Orono and Andover won the friendship game
In the B tournament Elk River 6 Lakeville South 5 for the championship

thats funny. Most people I have talked to say they are doing it because Johnny has no chance to make the "A" team, but they think this is a better development pathway to make it in the future. The level of play is good, and would be competitive with most associations' squirt A level.
It is a "B" league, nothing wrong with that.
That's right in line with the Made's stated intent of developing players to return to their associations as "A" players. So you're right, nothing wrong with that.sorno82 wrote:thats funny. Like I mentioned before, more kids in the league this year and more spread from top to bottom. I don't doubt that some of the people you've talked to have kids that are B level players in Choice. That doesn't change my opinion that the teams (as a whole) would compete well with most A teams. The top kids in the Choice teams are A level players. So, really a mix of A and B players --much like many mid-size to smaller associations out there, with the third lines not as strong as the first lines.
No matter how you look at it though, the choice teams would not be among the top A teams, because they are not as deep top to bottom. I think I made that point earlier. (Right Puck?)
Either way, it's good competition and development.

Amen to that.. there will be enough nutty professors here on this thread without adding the MM made crowd in here. there I go bashing MM again and before you send that comment.... let me say that I love the free market and that I wish them the best.. There now I can talk about association hockey without gettig picked on.yeahyeahyeah wrote:I propose this thread be CHOICE/FIRE discussion free. Whether you mean to bash or brag I think all discussion that references those two organizations remain in their own threads.
No offense intended to either program, they are different and deserve their own forum for conversation.
Agreed. Any other tournament winners and scores to report? Hopkins or Burnsville tournament winners?

Seems STMA has done quite well for such a young team by winning the Hopkins tourney over a strongly favored Elk River team. Their defensive style seems to be quite effective against stronger teams. They could be very good if they start to develop some offense to go with their defense and their goalies. Anybody know much about the Eden Prarie group or Minnetonka? Sounds like they could be quite strong as well.

Ok someone has to say it, 1:35 am! haha kidding many reasons a person would be cruising the internet at that time of the night. It was Cyber Monday after all.
I did see Elk River play they have solid defense. STMA must be pretty good to have beaten them. Waconia is another team to watch, I was told they only have 2 lines and have been together for a couple years. Edina was beaten by Elk River in the Hopkins tourney 5-4.
