5-2 HM final, man it looked like it was going to be quite a game out of the gate, the bears were kinda takin it to hill and they scored first, but then hill scored and it was all downhill from there, Lennartson got a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for checking from behind and hill scored twice on that and scored once more in the second and early in the third, then the bears scored too, in the third but it was too late

Nice win for the Pioneers in a full house at Aldrich. Both student sections provided enthusiasm & humor & yet, everyone was well behaved. Hill just has too much speed & depth & WB just couldn't handle it. The 5 min major didn't help the Bears either. Collette looked decent, not great, and he will need to be great if they have any shot at beating Hill this year. Kohls was the best player on the ice & had a beautiful goal. Shaughnessy was solid but wasn't really called upon very often. Little disappointed with Hill's power play especially when you look at the skill level they have. I'm sure Lex will work it out. Overall, always nice to beat the Bears & wish ya good luck next week at the Schwan's Cup.

I was impressed with Hill, WBL has a long ways to go if they wanna compete for the entire game with Hill. You made a lot of good points PPG, I was amazed at Kohl's goal, it was fantastic. I was also on the edge of my seet every time Zepeda was on the ice, he is probably the fastest High School player in Minnesota. Shaughnessy is a solid goalie, he moves well, wasn't called on tonight but made some nice saves. Owen played good and made a lot of nice saves but if WBL expects to win he will have to play better. Didn't really notice Birkinbine out there for the bears either, expected more out of him and I was dissapointed the Wolter wasn't playing, I was looking forward to watching him. Lastly on the Pioneers PP, all it seemed they did was have Casto throw the puck at the net from the point and didn't really seem to move the puck around like I thought they would.Pioneerprideguy wrote:Nice win for the Pioneers in a full house at Aldrich. The first period was very suprising as it was played fairly evenly, maybe because white bear came out with so much emotion. second and third periods white bear lost their legs and were absolutely dominated in all phases of the game. I am more of a white bear fan than a hill fan, and I it was pretty dissapointing seeing such a one-sided game. As far as the players, Kohls was awesome tonight, and that goal was very nice. Zepeda is quick out there, and can creat a lot of offense fast. For White bear, not to mention any names, I was extremely disspointed with the defensemen who was supposed to be going to the USHL this season. Boy did he play poorly tonight. Terrible turnovers turned into goals for hill. With your best defensemen playing like that, its over for a team like WBL. Offensively I thought Birkenbine was the best on the ice for WB tonight, with 18 and Wahlin as well. Collette made some nice saves, but as some of you had already mentioned, to beat hill in late feb-early march, he is going to have to play ALOT better.
Hill Murray is obviously a talented team, but they are beatable. To win, White Bear would need to outwork the Pioneers and hope for a break or two. But, the breaks mostly went the Pioneer's way. The Bears came out hard and scored first. But, with a few minutes left in the first, the WBL tender let in a soft goal. You can't let in softies if you want to beat a team as good as Hill and you could see the wind go out of the Bear's sails. I thought the 5 minute major for checking from behind was a bad call. A Hill player checked a White Bear player from behind earlier and got a 2 minute roughing. They should both have been 2 and 10. Nonetheless, it was a dumb penalty. The 5 minute power play was the game breaker. Both of Hill's power play goals came on defensive breakdowns. With the Bear's right D covering the shooter and the left D covering the man in front of the net, the tender made the save, but no forward covered the third Pioneer, who swept in for an easy rebound goal. On Kohl's goal, the two D just watched as he split them and went untouched to the net. It was a great offensive play, but the D needs to step up and put a body on the puck carrier. Other than that, I was impressed by how well some of the younger Bears played, especially Wahlin (with 2 goals) and Birkinbine, who worked his tail off.
While you were on the edge of your seat, I was standing and cheering everytime #26 from WBL put him on the seat of his pants.ImissMYhockey wrote:I was impressed with Hill, WBL has a long ways to go if they wanna compete for the entire game with Hill. Hill definately took over in the 2nd and 3rd period. Their speed, skill, and WBL penalties all played into the outcome. For WBL to have any chance in sections, they need to stay out of the penalty box and Owen can't let in any soft goals like the first one last night.

In the WBL press "season preview" Coach Sager said that his upper classmen would be the differnece with this seasons team. Let me just say as I watched the game with the program in hand, that the upper classmand were a huge dissapointment. Two sophs basically outplayed the enitire upperclas for WBL. I was VERY dissapointed in their "D" play. WBL usually prides themselves in play i their own zone, and last night it seemed rather non-existant. I was also very UN-impressed with "O"-wen tonight... his first goal was really soft, and I thought his angels were not the best at times. Though in his defense the "D" played terrible. I will be curious to see how they end up!

was at the game....first the checking from behind had to be called. it was a brutal hit.
WBL did not really have a good offensive shift after the first 6 minutes of the first period...they never buzzed after that at all in the hill zone.
the WBL goalie left huge rebounds on almost every shot, several times wide open nets but no hill player there to punch it in.
I would expect however a tight game in regions, but Im not so sure WBL will get to the final game this year. they dont have the horses this year at all.
fans form WBL were good, came prepared in an Orange out setting. some good humor but they seem to have some fixation on cheering about HM students mothers. I think they are too into MILF's to be honest.

the underclassmen did pretty well last night, but the upperclassmen will pull it together once they all learn to play together again. The team is so different this year from last year that they just need to adjust, then they will shine.PuckPatrol wrote:In the WBL press "season preview" Coach Sager said that his upper classmen would be the differnece with this seasons team. Hills depth at both forward and on the blue line were too much for the Bears and will be for most of the teams they face.
Collette did nothing to help the Bears last night.
The Bears needed to stay out of the box last night to have any chance. The 5 minute major and PP goals afterwards sucked the life out of the Bears.
Hills #7 is one of the fastest in the state. Also spends most of his time suckholing behind the other teams D, doesn't help out much in his own end, and is a graduate of the Robbie Earls school of diving. Fantastic skater though.
Looks like Hill will be the team to beat in the state this year. Hard to gauge their goalie because the team plays so well in front of him.

Zepeda's back-checking was one of the major reasons Hill beat Roseau and Edina last year. He did the work when it was necessary and he will again. I actually noticed it last night too, but he certainly is ready to take off when the puck turns over which is his job. We'll take it...SEC Scotty wrote:Hills #7 is one of the fastest in the state. There were no players that were supposed to play in the USHL for WBL this year. A couple players tried out for Des Moines, and some NAHL teams, but no players made any junior teams they tried out for.mnpuckster wrote:The first period was very suprising as it was played fairly evenly, maybe because white bear came out with so much emotion. second and third periods white bear lost their legs and were absolutely dominated in all phases of the game. WBL/Hill
Disappointed in da Bears. Thought they would come to play. Looked like they were lead foot, maybe too much practice, but looked that way last year too at the 25th Anniversary party for Hill, then they came out big in the sections, only to be thwarted by Phillippi during his four or five game flash. (Other than a handful of games he was not what the hill PR machine made him to be, stats baked on games they should have played the back up... oh well)
Young cubs look good but not ready for this Hill team. Hopefully they were just taking it all in and waiting for Sections. Lennartson's penalty definitely sapped these guys of there energy to win, but that wasn't the only penalty, there were a few others. Was a bad hit though, good call, I'm sure Nick won't make that mistake again. Can't play this kind of Hill team fighting off penaltys, they are too fast and they keep on going like the energizer bunny.
Owen made some good saves but missed some too, overall looked bit sloppy but Hill can do that to you. Can't beat Hill without playing better in nets. Hills goalie maybe had 15 shots but only needed about 4 decent saves. Couldn't have been more than 5 shots total in period 2 and 3.
the Bears need to crash the net with the puck carrier cutting across top of circles and firing low on stick side. Give the crashers a second or two to get in there. Few shots on hill goalie but the ones that went stick side were up for grabs, Bears just had no one at the net. Of course several of their best opps were shots over the net or wide. In fact Hills top players missing the net a lot and against Mahtomedi too. Great glove, but REALLY weak on the stick side, surprised no one goes there more.
Does anyone teach these kids (all of them) to shoot anymore, get REBOUNDS, BEUHLER BEUHLER... seems like everyone wants to shoot high and glove side... NO REBOUNDS there. These teams are missing a lot of good rebound opps by not shooting.

I don't think everyone knows who you are talking about. Can you let people know who you are talking about?mnpuckster wrote:Either way, there were rumors he was heading to play juniors. And I think we all know who I am talking about. Sure he can skate, but wow the mental mistakes were rediculous. He just didnt play up to par. WBL is always solid defensively and I just dont see it this season.
