rule change

The rule change applies to the hand pass. It is now treated the same as playing the puck with a high stick. As for grasping the puck, that results in a stoppage and the face off is at 1 of the 9 designated dots on the ice (closest to the infraction). If it occurs in the offensive zone, it comes out ...

It doesn't matter the system, (3 or 4 Officials). There are only 2 "Referees" on the ice at any time in a HS game. The other official (or officials) are strictly linesmen, whose main responsibility are line calls (off-sides or icings). They cannot be blowing whistles when the puck is lost ...

Referee Change in Girls tourney

The instant replay used at the state tourney overturned a North Metro goal 2 years ago vs. Stillwater that would have counted under normal circumstances. It was impossible to see during play, and only with the slo-mo camera, at the right angle nonetheless, were you able to see it went in off a skate...

Has anyone heard the final for the Eagan vs. Chaska game last Thursday night? I haven't seen it posted anywhere as of tonight.[/i]

Referee change in this year's Tourney

Having officiated girls hockey for 10 years, I have learned an interesting format change for this year's Tourney. Some of my comrades that are officiating at the X this year have told me that in addition to the boys tournament using 4 officials this year (2 ref, 2 lines) the girls are doing the same...

Breck over Blake

Bit of a surprise here, given Blake's recent string of win's over their conference rival the past few years. Breck must have done a heck of a job to keep Blake off the scoreboard. Would be interested to hear from anyone in attendance on how Breck turned the tide.

I can see how that might be frustrating. There is a grey area in the crease rule this year, where a player can be in the crease and not impeding the goalie in any way. If this is the case, then play should continue. A goal can even be allowed if this is happening. If she does impede the goalie in an...

Hopkins 4 North-metro 2 Officiating was unacceptable for a game at this level. All flow to the game was destroyed. Goalie for North-metro made many great saves to keep her team in the game. Oilers8, can you elaborate on why you think the officiating was unaccetable?? Did the refs call too many penal...

I recently heard of another injury as the result of a "check" in a girls game. Does anyone know the condition of the jv player injured in the Lakeville vs. Farmington game on 1/31? From what I've been told, the injured player was more "sandwiched" into the boards, and not thrust ...

Open Enrollment Closed

You forget there are MANY girls from EP who are NOT open enrollment players. Pretty difficult when the whole state wants to see you lose, including one of the officials. EP has NOTHING to hang their heads about and still won a lot of games and faced a lot of pressure. Wazata did a good job tonight. ...

There is not a Match Penalty in MN High School Hockey. Match penalties are an attempt to injure penalty. In MN HS Hockey, the most severe penalty is a Game DQ, which covers fighting, spearing, kicking, major infractions, etc... Any major penalty must be accompanied by a Game DQ. The penalty is eject...
