Albert Lea
Not to tout Albert Lea too much, but it is misconception that they are a one-line team. The AL second and third lines are easily as good as Red Wing's. In fact, the third line has been very productive this year, forechecks well and plays tough defense. One of the third-line starters, Dillon Stolt, t...

Faribault
Could Faribault upset Lourdes? I don't think so, but you never know. They can look pretty good at times. Consistency has been a problem, probably because they are young. But I don't think they have enough experience to knock off Lourdes, although they could give them a good game, and just maybe ...

High plains
Well, yeah, it was biased dangler, probably because I've seen AL play more than the other teams on top. And isn't that what an opinion is? It wasn't like Albert Lea dominated Red Wing, but they did have almost 30 shots. And in the first period, they had things going their way until Red Wing got a go...

who wins
Albert Lea, but New Prague will not go down easy. Tyler Prihoda will be the difference. He plays both ends of the ice and has as much offensive talent as Tyler Lapic. AL's top line has its bearings again after losing Stadtheim, and their goaler is peaking. AL has better quality depth than NP, especi...

Nice post
I think you pretty much nailed it Southern HS hockey guy. If I'm not mistaken, Waseca has 13 victories. But you are correct, they were all against pretty mucn weak teams except for two nice wins over LeSueuer, a win over Windom and a victory over Dodge County. All showed the progress the team is mak...

Richfield beats Hill-Murray 3-2
What a great victory for the Spartans who played a solid, opportunistic game, scoring two power-play goals to beat Hill-Murray. Many Richfield fans could not remember if that has ever happened before. Spartans who I think deserve mention were No. 10 Dusty Peterson who was everywhere, defenseman No. ...

Ok, here's an early season analysis. I've seen Faribault and Albert Lea beat Waseca. What does it mean?
Who's better? Albert Lea I think. Faribault's young. But watch out Section 1A.

Things to remeber
Some things i want mention: We love this sport. Yes Albert Lea destroyed Waseca. Brandon Kingston, a true hockey player, scored twice for Waseca. The kid weighs 100 pounds but he gives every ounce, every time he steps on the ice; what a great example of what high school hockey means in Minnesota. St...

phillippi and hill-murray
I'm not sure why but Joe Phillippi seems to create a lot of dislike. I saw him take a wicked slash last year at a Richfield player for no reason, and I heard the disdain in the stands from opponents during the quarterfinal game against Lakeville South. But love him or hate him, he came up huge in th...

West
The game was close but can you call it a good game for West if they lost a game they should have won? I'm just asking, because if they had put those chances that Marshall just handed them in the first period away, they win. Like hockeypurist said, Marshall seemed content to fire soft shots from the ...

breck
I don't think 2A is going to be a cakewalk. I saw Breck take apart Mound last night. Blake looked weak, but Breck is young (mostly 10-graders), talented and very fast. A first-rounder between West and Breck would probably be a very fast, wide-open game. I'd like to see that match-up in the Xcel. Wes...

laprade
You're right fivehole, Laprade had a horrible first period. I was right behind the goal and I frankly don't see how they counted six shots. I counted four, with three in the net. He did play a little better after that, but he was fighting the puck all night, ending up on his backside way too often. ...

Going off the Big Nine web site out of St. Mary's, I get:
Lieverman at 206 points
Litchfield at 190
Any way you slice it, these guys have had great high school careers.
Honorable mention:
Ryan Anderson has been there all four years, too, and has scored 119 points by my quick calculation.

West
Some perspective. In 2004-2005, Lieverman and Litchfield were the leading scorers on West; they were freshmen. Litchfield scored 27 goals that season. They were 8-17-1, and they got beat 11-2 by Albert Lea and 9-0 by Century. These guys have been playing together on varsity for ages. They've taken s...

Blake
Blake was very lucky to beat Holy Family. The HF goalie had a rough first period. Although to be fair, the shots from Blake, although they weren't many, were good. But Holy Family basically outplayed Blake for much of the game. Blake could not break out in with any speed the entire game, and they co...

The Packers don't have the raw skill that St. Thomas has, but they know how to play the game, and that means they play the body.
I think the Packers are going to upset here.

Breck
Breck looked terrific, checking Mound all over the ice and never letting 'em get back in the game. Breck is very young with lots of speed. They looked a lot better than Blake did against Holy Famiily.

New Prague
After Tyler Lapic left the game, it seemed that New Prague lost all its jump. Lourdes really took it to them in the third. I can't say enough about the play of senior goalie Colin Schoenecker. He was outstanding all game, but particularly solid in the third when Lourdes outshot NP 17-3. He saved the...
