Congratulations Hill-Murray

Anything for an ex Johnson player and a Johnson fan. With Hill-Murray winning, I probably lost about $100.Govs93 wrote:Whatever. I'm a little shaken at the moment. Cut me some friggin' slack! I'm lucky I got the decade right at the moment.wbmd wrote:Centennial won it in '04.Govs93 wrote:This sucks.
Gotta hand it to them though - when you take what they did to Roseau and Edina, you have to put that up against the best defensive performances in Tournament history. Centennial in '03 can't be topped, but this is right up there. I saw no sign of Phillippi puting on the kind of show he did, but as everybody demanded all year... that's why you play the games.
Congrats to the Pioneers and just thank your lucky stars you didn't cross paths with the Governors in the sections, or it never would've happened.

FWIW, HAL gave me a little surprise after plugging the State Tourney scores awhile ago. I think HAL is just tired of all the whining.

As a former Hornet player this is hard to say but the better team definitely won tonight. Hill Murray played a great game and their goaltender was on fire. If we had to get beat by someone at least it was by a guy like Lechner who is a class act. Congratulations to the Pioneers on winning their 3rd state championship.

How much money could have been made if someone had bet you before the tourney Hill would play Roseau and Edina and outscore them by a combined 9-2? Sure got hot at the right time. Hill got all the bounces tonight, but sometimes that is what it takes...east hockey wrote:Props to the Pioneers; two nearly perfect games played to take home the title.

phillippi and hill-murray
I'm not sure why but Joe Phillippi seems to create a lot of dislike. I saw him take a wicked slash last year at a Richfield player for no reason, and I heard the disdain in the stands from opponents during the quarterfinal game against Lakeville South.
But love him or hate him, he came up huge in the tournament. He was solid as a rock, and Hill-Murray was terrific. Great to see such a well-coached team. They played outstanding hockey.

They were (until last night) a little below the radar, weren't they? Everything was Roseau this, Edina that, and a little "what about Benilde?" thrown in for good measure. So much for what most people (including me) think.Sparlimb wrote:How much money could have been made if someone had bet you before the tourney Hill would play Roseau and Edina and outscore them by a combined 9-2? Hill-Murray Pioneers
Congratulations to Coach Bill Lechner and the Pioneers. Bill is a class act and a great guy. He has worked 27 years as a coach and given his heart and soul to Hill-Murray and to all of the kids whose lives he has touched. I couldn't be happier for him. It's a great night for all of us Hill-Murray families. Kudos to Joe Phillippi for one of the all time best tournaments by a goalie.

Congratulations boys, you put on a show this weekend that no one will soon forget. The H-M community is extremely proud tonight as it's been too long since that last championship banner was hung back in '91. Joe Phillippi, what an outstanding performance, no better way to end a terriffic four year career. You guys put on an incredible team performance against a couple of the best programs in the state on consecutive nights to earn a well deserved state championship. It doesn't get any better than that. Enjoy the celebration, I know I will!!

Better? I wouldn't say better they had the better goalie tonight and that won them the game. Hill dominated the first, Edina took the second, and the Third was split pretty even and Flip came up big for Hill a number of times as did the pipe.

I will say this is one advantage of the seeding system. Hill-Murray clearly earned the title and no one can say they ducked anyone. They beat the top 2 teams in state convincingly and that was that. I am happy as pie for the squad.hockeypuck02 wrote:Congratulations boys, you put on a show this weekend that no one will soon forget. Very well done by HM. Solid game plan and gritty defense, two , make that three, solid lines working their tales off - they deserved it. I was thinking right before the tourney about how quiet Hill has been this year, and how mch talent they have. Well, they proved it. Furne, Zepeda, Dolan, Sova, Cecha and Phillippi all looked terrific. Underrated also were Kohls, Singerhouse and Metcalf. Edina was also incredible, BSM too. GREAT AND MEMORABLE TOURNEY!
