how can you say jr gold. is like varsity? jr gold kids are the kids who got cut from varsity... and then jr varsity I know plenty of varsity caliber players that chose JG over HS hockey. And, there are some very good reasons why a player would do so. You can't make a generalization that these are c...

Depending on how many people you have trying out for high school... Generally your JV team consists of A and B1 bantam players, sometimes B-2 players depending on the school. Varsity- the ultimate goal JV- A fairly competetive and high level of play, real good for development JGA-From what ive seen,...

There are many rules for establishing a Tier I (AAA) team. The first, and probably most important, is that they must be sactioned by the governing body (MN Hockey, WAHA, ...). Regarding playing on an association team and a Tier I team - this is not allowed per USA Hockey rules. Tryouts are post seas...

Christian Brothers will make a custom curve wooden stick, give color options, and put a name on it. Cost is something like $35 each, but you have to buy in 6 piece quantities. For those that have a preferred curve, and have had it with the over priced composites, this is a great option. Just send th...

The PHIT (formerly Impact Hockey) program advertises a great development program: small group sessions, unlimited dryland, talented instructors, premier development, connections to Junior programs and scouts, ... However, my experience there has been that it becomes an overpriced day care center. Pa...

Whatthe - The demand is there and it's getting stronger every year. So far WAHA has resisted the push to sanction more teams in Western WI. But their position is weakening. Iowa is also a threat to sanction a Tier I team and draw from Minnesota. Team Midwest still exists, but as a summer AAA team. T...

Question: If parents truly want to get out of their local associations so their kids can play club hockey against teams in other states, why aren't there 4-6 Western Wisconsin Tier 1 teams filled with MN kids right now? Your question is what we are trying to prevent from happening. Failure by MN Ho...

I'm moving south and asking for a raise!!! It's no secret that hockey is an expensive sport. But that doesn't mean that we melt the rinks just because everyone can't afford to participate. Each family makes an individual economic decision whether to even introduce their children to the sport. As suc...

Goldy - Economics is not a compelling reason against Tier I. This could definitely be called a con to the idea of Tier I, but not a compelling reason. I could even say that economics is a pro because it would increase participation in MN Hockey (increase revenue), increase tourism revenue with other...

Compelling Reason
In my opinion, there are dozens of pros to the concept of Tier I hockey in MN and no cons to it. It appears that many (most?) are in agreement. There are numerous methods of implementation and advantages/disadvantages to each. These would probably be best sorted out by a committee of interested part...

is that for next year? there will still be 93's eligible for Bantams, or are you assuming if they are good enough to play tier one, they'll be good enough to play high school hockey Next year, 94 is major bantam. Those very few 93s that are still bantam elligible per the MN age rule have the option...

Playing in a National Tier II tournament might be a good step in the direction of exploring Tier I options. It would take some logistics as I believe that the MN Hockey State Tourneys are about the same time as nationals (or maybe it's regions). It would be nice if our playoff structure selected the...

to me its a very selfish and self serving move to abandon your association for a AAA hockey club. Dog - Very interesting perspective and I see your point. It must be great to be with a close knit association where people are so supportive and take such pride in each other. You are right, someone le...

I've seen examples of all the points that you raised. There is a drastic change in abilities throughout the youth hockey career and into HS (and beyond) as individuals mature physically and mentally. However, I think the A players from Pee Wee forward tend to remain A level players. There will be so...

the main point on mm i was making is it overdevelops at a young age. it will make an awesome squirt and peewee. you can only take it so far the product in the end will still be decided by genetics, heart, and sheer will. If you take twin boys, one does MM and the other does traditional, which boy wou...

Re: Hey Elliot
Elliot do not mess with it, leave it be. MAHA has served Minnesota Hockey quite well for many years. The mega associations are simpy recruiting a better % of great atheletes to the great sport of ice hockey (Edina as example). Folks up north in some communities are not getting the best athletes out...

Players have come and gone, all without the threatened suspension. But what a st...

I have no knowledge about the D4/D8 merger, but at first thought it doesn't sound like one of the better ideas that I've heard. I agree that the rational of this and how it fits within the goals of MN Hockey need to be addressed and understood. Isn't there another thread relating to this? However, I...

Tier I programs in other areas can be a money grab. Many are club teams with an owner - not non-profit as our local associations are. Costs can be crazy, but they don't have to be. The Fire is something like $2k a year. Not much higher than some local associations. Travel is a cost adder, but people...

Air Force 1 wrote:So what is holding you/people back from doing this now?wheels wrote: Count me in on this one. People should have options and freedom to do what they want and a tier 1 option should be an option.
The reason people aren't doing it now is because the option isn't available to them in Minnesota.
