Wow! If true that would be huge. BSM only returns a couple defense IIRC.

Huge congrats to Tonka, who are indeed probably the best Girls HS team in history. But before we shuffle BSM off to never-never land and give Tonka the free trip to state next year, let's remember that the margins of victory this year were fine, and that BSM might return the best two lines in the st...

I give Johnson major credit. He never allowed his team to panic and his girls were more rested deep into the 3rd. I don't think the "spirit of playing for your community" thing applies, as there are girls on Tonka who didn't play youth there. If anything, Johnson added the correct pieces a...

SnowedIn gave us two good reasons why parents want their kid playing with "better players": A: You live in an area that has a non-competitive association and you think your child (son or daughter) is a good player today and deserves more than a 5-30 season every winter? Yes, but the record...

What I've learned in our 8 year youth hockey career is this: There are only a very tiny number of parents who don't want their kid playing with kids who are either equal or better, and most have a semi-inflated opinion of where their kid is. Most parents want great competition for their kid, a coach...

I think trying to rank AAA teams is folly.

Depends on the weekend, which girls are there, which are at the cabin?

In the long run, it doesn't really matter.

So what do you do about the kids from big associations who aren't chosen for their A squad? Because little Suzie doesn't get along with the A coach's kid she gets banished to the B team, and now she has no shot to go to state? In the larger associations politics are played after the top ten kids, it...

I'd go along with 3 classes. Mostly because there is very little real competition at the top of both A & B. The best A teams kill the weak A teams. The best B teams (generally those with no A team) kill the weak B teams. Add in how unfair it is for the kids in large associations who just miss th...

You must not understand. Parents of kids 1-10 don't want their little hotshots playing with #'s 20-30. Can't stunt lil' Sidney's development that way. And if you don't keep 1-10 happy... Parents tend to care only long enough to make sure THEIR kid gets taken care of. Development is only a concern fo...

As long as you limit the number of teams. 10 at those levels us too many. 4 sounds better, six might be accepable.

And do you do this for girls, too? If so, it'd probably be the death of girls hockey at the association level.

Minnesota Hockey's obligation is not to the superstar kids in search of a super Team because parents just can't bear the thought of their Ovechkin skating with lesser players. Minnesota Hockey should be all about THE REST of the kids. If you live in Richfield and just happen to think junior would ge...

Maybe you never knew a bubble kid. When the open-enrollers stroll in, they bump the bubble kids. The kids at 13, 14, 15 don't get to pack up and head to a neighboring association to play on their A team. You play squirts and pee wee and some open enroller phenom comes in and steals the kids spot. No...

Unless the rule is "Play Where You Live" it really doesn't matter, people will find a way around things. Make whatever convoluted rule you wnt.

Play Where You Live is the easiest and best rule, certainly in the metro. Easiest to administer: No question. Just check the parents' drivers license. Best because associations should be stronger when the kids don't bolt for another association. Go help your local association for the 5 months of the...

I just don't buy the "I should be allowed to play my kid wherever I like" argument at all. Any rule that puts any choice in the hands of parents is a bad rule. "My kids want to play with their friends" = "My kid and his hockey friends are all-stars and I don't want my kid pl...

Given that pretty much every team has some travel at playoff time, I think it would be best to start the cross-district play earlier rather than later. In effect, create one giant bracket. If I decipher the Minnesota Hockey site, there are 12 districts having anywhere between 8 and 20 associations i...

So a kid living in Eden Prairie, going to school in Edina. Later leaves to go to school at Benilde (7th grade). Plays in Edina into Pee Wee. He has to leave Edina's association? Has to either rejoin EP (they'd just love that, I bet) or become a player on the Mpls/Park team? This is confusing, man. ....
