Why do so many people even care?

I Imagine the people that are so against him are tired of the hype and the people that defend him want to justify the extra money he charges over other programs. Get over it! MN Made is a way for kids to learn hockey, not the only way. Bernie finds talented kids, because they come to him, because of...

Re: OneHockey

Be very very careful with this guy at OneHockey...he is a money maker. I'm sure he makes money, but I think it was about $400 and we got 5-7 games and 2 practice/scrimmages in Philly. The kids also got a jersey, socks, breezer covers, a hat and an Easton style wind jacket with the included package....

OneHockey

My son has played in the Philadelphia tournament two summers and the competition is not predictable at all. One year they had a couple strong French speaking teams from Quebec and weak teams for AZ and CA, another year they had strong teams made up of players from US AAA teams like Compuware, Bell T...

Re: Why do the large associations hide the pre-canned approa

HockeyDadMN, I hope your son does well enough in his tryout to encourage him to play hockey this year and in the future. Enjoy this time between you and your son. Its special. I don't have to encourage him to play hockey, he dragged me into it and is still on the pulling end. I was totally blown aw...

Why do the large associations hide the pre-canned approach?

I took me a while to find out this was happening in my son's association. In most cases the board even claims it's not happening, when it's so obvious. If it's happening and secret, what does that say about the board and coaches? It looks shady and dishonest to me, if it wasn't why would they hide i...

Not sure that's a good idea, I think they have already picked the 09/10 teams.

Years ago Edina had better ice. The community built one of the first indoor rinks and did an incredible job maintaining their outdoor ice. Now they probably have more 3 and 4 year olds skating per capita, than any city in the state. No one recruits young players better than Edina. They also have est...

Yuro is fun to watch skate, I've never seen anyone with so much energy. His energy rubs of on the kids and he personally helps them become better skaters. NEEHS run one of the hardest physical camps, but I think the players enjoy themselves more than any highly motivational camp I've seen. Where els...

Some associations don't need tryouts at all. The A coaches are already practicing with the A/B players they have picked and after seeing the players in Aug, will probably have picked the A team by Sept. Outside evaluators would change the outcome a bit, but most of all they would make the majority o...

Association politics

MM is a great option to escape association politics alone. Maybe associations will change for the better because there is competition now.

I just wish they had a Peewee league, but I guess that by the time they do, my son will be a Bantam.

Maybe we will see a Minnesota Made Choice Squirt league next year? That would give the Edina B's a place to play that would be more competitive and shrink the EHA by a few teams.

It would be interesting to compare a list of the biggest associations to Slapshot88's list.

I have to believe #20 on his list has sent the most players to the NHL in the last decade, even though they are probably a quarter the size his top 6 or 7 associations.

I seriously think that mites play to many games and don't have enough practices. I have heard of these mite teams that play like 35 games.
I think they should play small ice games, with short shifts to keep the action and intensity going. Full ice games should be limited to special events.

Choice league may need to improve if they get competition too, but I'd bet they can change faster than a...

Maybe he should branch out to Hudson and join Wisconsin Hockey. Then he could field teams that play in the league that the Fire plays in.

That way he could have teams play in MN tournaments (like the Fire do).

His son plays for the Badgers and that may help him draw a lot of WI talent too.

Nike makes a wood stick with nylon on the bottom edge of the blade. It's a cheap stick, but it didn't get all mashed from banging it on the ice. As a mite my son mashed the blades of wood sticks, but not the Nike. He had a composite Jr stick, but liked the size of the youth Nike until the summer aft...

Bernie McBain's son was one of the first round picks in 2006, so obviously Bernie recruited and trained a good youth team for his son to play on. In 2007 the #1 and #2 picks were Americans for the first time ever. Ten Americans were drafted in the first round. How many were trained by Bernie McBain?...

Summer Hockey

My son looks forward to non-association hockey. It's more important to him than winter hockey and he also gets more ice time in the off-season than during the winter season. If there was a winter option, besides association play, that let him play more hockey, he would take it in a minute. He plays ...

The idea that MN Hockey lines up with a players grade level doesn't fly. If you look at current squirt A teams, most have '98s, 97's and 96's playing on the team. Under the other method they would be only have '98's and '97's. No mater how you slice it teams will have mixed grades levels. AAA isn't ...
