Top D Pairs in State

Post by ghshockeyfan »

We have a "top lines" thread - so here's the D equivalent...

I saw some pretty amazing D last night from HM that should be on this list for certain, although honestly I wasn't able to make out any distinct pairings - #7 & #12 are very solid for HM...

By the way - HM #7 may be one of the best Sophomore D in the state. I've seen her play 4x now this year, and each time she has impressed me.

number 7 was casey knajek...i think that she is one of the top defensemen in the state, she hardly comes off the ice and never lets up, i think number 12 is Kriston Peterson, she is nearly as good as Casey, there are no distinct pairings on HM, when you watch the tape you'll notice they try to keep one of those two on the ice at all times and all the d seems to play well with anyone who's out there

Any of EP's w/Lambert and Seeler

Post by pickme »

Any of EP's...

Lambert with Stewart or Lacombe or Blader or Christanson
Seeler with Stewart or Lacombe or Blader or Christanson

or the obvious is if Lambert and Seeler played together.

The scary part is that Stewart, Lacombe, Blader or Christanson would easily be #2's on most teams in the conference...maybe #1's for Stewart and Lacombe.

Best D pairing.

Post by hockeynut99 »

Hard to imagine that there is a better pairing than Kelsey Romatoski and Colleen Krmpotich from The Academy of Holy Angels.

Romatoski controls the puck like better than any D in the state and Krmpotich is a great combination of speed, strength and a hard slap shot.

Lange & Parker - Sibley; when they are healthy are pretty good.

Roseville has 3 strong sets of D. It will be interesting to see how they do there next 3 Games, Cretin, Stillwater and Eden Prairie

Most everyone will be rooting for Roseville to pull off the upset of the year when they play "Eden Prairie" - well I think most of their players are from Eden Prairie anyways.

Like all private schools their students come from a wider area than just the town they are located in. And unlike Eden Prairie all of their incoming new players this year were freshmen or younger. Last year they had just one "OE" transfer in that would have been affected by the proposed new rules.

How many has EP had in the last two years?

Thats besides the point! I asked you a Question? And you didn't answer the question. And we will leave it at that.

Thanks

Ever wonder why they don't play each other? For the reason that many BSM are from EP I believe.

And, here's an interesting question - If those that left EP for privates were at EP and the xfer/OE's not would EP really be any less of a power? Maybe some of those OE/xfers are just taking the vacated spots from the EP privates so is it a wash in the end as far as spots lost to outsiders vs those vacated by EP privates?

D pairings? Most teams seperate their best D with one weaker player. Also are we talking offensive D or Defensive D. I like #12 KP from Hill a great 2 way player #7 is more offensive but can play solid D (their goalie also helps them alot). Cretin has 2 very good Offensive D and the 9th grader is a good Defensive D Pendleton. Roseville has a very good senior D and the 2- 9th graders are solid Duellman, Witwicke ) but what makes them so good are thier forwards who forecheck then back check hard. WBL has a solid 9th grade D great passer. Forest lake has a very good 8th grade D and junior D Nelson. Blaine has a very good D Dani S?. Irondale has a very good senior D captain.

After all of that, what helps the D is having a coach who promotes aggressive styles and lets the player play with her instincts (Hill Murray, Cretin, Simley)

The girls game keeps getting better and better faster and faster.

I think you named a lot of strong D. My question about pairs was a little non-specific for a reason. I think that the notion of pairings for D usually doesn't result in the two best D on a team, but instead allows us to highlight two players that play well together, but may not be the 2 best on any 1 team. If we talk about taking the 2 best D from a team, which would likely rarely be paired together outside special teams play (if even then...), then I can see mentioning Lambert & Seeler, etc., etc. as pairings, but in reality I don't know how often they play together. And, some teams may only play 3 (YES I SAID 3) D, and some 5, etc. so this isn't exactly easy to decipher common pairs from I suppose.

Relative to promoting agressive styles and letting a D showcase their talents - I'm actually fine with that, but, as any player does, they have to play within a system to some degree, but you do try to give players the cabability to be creative within that system as much as possible of course. Any player must play with their instinct too as you say, but, again, within the basic notion of a system of course.

Dani Schoelzen is playing forward this year for Blaine.

Hannah Solheim, Erika Wheelhouse, and Lexy Wangen, the three switch off throughout the game and they work very well with eachother, very smart players.

Do they only play 3? Or are there others that play more limited roles too?

I thought a north metro team had two of their D committed to the top two D1 women's hockey programs ...

Those 3 play for Crookston. Hannah is a junior, Erika a sophmore and Lexy a freshman.

I saw them play in Bemidji, very good players. I didn't see a fourth defenseman dressed in that game. A forward I believe moved back if one of them got a penalty.

North Metro has great D match ups, and just wait until they gel! Out of the same conference, Coon Rapids has apparently move one of the best forwards in the State to D, and make an awesome D pairing on the PP with Windmeier and Rasmussen.

#7 from Austin really impressed me. she is a solid defender and is not scared to skate the puck up, which she has the speed to do. also shes young so has better years ahead

Crookston girls only have 3 defenseman? They must have some JV players or others dressed, if not thats something they were a force down in the Alex tourney
