GRG STP festival

Post by boblee »

I did attend. No player stood out too much in my mind. I do have a few opinions, and if you want to ask about individual players or teams, feel free and i will give some insight. One thing I think the Lightning need to do is play Kayla Clafton at center. She played some forward in one of the games and scored two goals and played very well. Moving Maggie Rothstein to forward may not be a bad idea either.

I completely agree. Clafton is a scorer, and they need more of it-and not just from their top line. Rothstein could work, but we can't get too chippy at the core set of defense.

Rothstein's D skills have faded the last couple seasons, I think the change could help her out a lot.

So what teams played in this event and who won? Who were the big scorers?

i dont know all the teams...

GRG-HIb
MN Wild
Cloquet
East Grand Forks
2 Edina Teams

That might be it...there may be two more.

There was no big scorers. I have no idea who won the event. Games were generally sloppy with little scoring.

I heard Edina took all their kids and just divided them into two equal teams.

Cloquet

How did Cloquet look up there? Are they going to be a top 5 team again?

The Edina Green team beat the MN Wild and East Grand Forks and lost to Cloquet. The Edina Gold team beat Cloquet, Grand Rapids, and East Grand Forks.

Cloquet

Post by boblee »

Cloquet will not be a top 5 team this year. They may be a top 10, but I almost doubt that. For that to happen, Paige Thunder will need to be amazing and someone other than Sadie Lundquist will have to score 30+ goals.

Cloquet looks enough to me to be top three.

I certainly think EP is number one right now, but Paige is amazing and the rest of the team is solid. They are well coached and no one has the big guns after lasts years graduation except for EP.

If Cloquet isn't top three, who are numbers 2 and 3?

If your talking about building around a solid goaltender, I would put my money on Blaine with Nixon. She in my opinion is tops. Blaine should be very good, but they will have to get by a very tough Stillwater team. Although Stillwater loses a couple of phenomenal players in Jones and Zilles, they have alot coming back. They handed cloquet 2 loses last year by a combined score of 8-2 and outshot cloquet 69-26 according to sportshuddle stats. I am not sure Stillwater is a top 3 team but I would put them in the top 10 and above cloquet. I think Cretin, Benilde and Edina should have pretty strong teams as well. I would probably put Benilde in the top 3.

Clouqet will be tough, they always are. Section 7 will be fun to watch espically with the Duluth teams co-oping and Rapids/Greenway adding some addittions to the mix.

Someone must be a Benilde fan.

The last time they played I thought they lost 4-0 to a team that didn't make the state tournament. Then they graduted their best player Tracy Johnson and their all conference goalie, and fired their coach. I don't know who their new goalie is but unless chaotic change is good I think Benilde will be the third or fourth seed in Section 6AA.

First of all I am not a Benilde fan, just like what they return. Secondly, they lost to a very good Wayzata team to end the season. They have their top scorers all returning including their best player in Trunzo who scored 43 goals. Yes they do lose a good goalie but with the amount of offense they return they should be a very good team.

ok...clueless...shut up. maybe cloquet will be top 5, maybe they won't even be top 50. you just never know. some teams can have all the talent in the world and not win consistently. some teams can have very little talent, but great team chemistry and have a great season. don't get on people for who they think might be a good team this year. their guess is as good as yours or mine. so relax a little bit and have some fun. life is too short.
