$44,000,000 New Salary Cap. Wild need to spend?

Post by Blade Side Down »

' the NHLPA says the salary cap will range from a minimum of $28 million per team up to $44 million. :D

The current salary cap has a range of $21 million to a maximum of $39 million.

Wow  , that's $7MM on the LOW end and $5MM added to the top end paying teams.

Wild Exercises Rolston's 2007-08 Contract Option, well that was scripted in the books looking forward. So no increase there. Wild get a deal.

Are the WILD program the lower end of the pay scale? So they MUST spend to the new Minumine or loss it. Don't get fooled by MN saying they have increased there pay-roll when they MUST get to $28,000,000 anyhow!
Is it time to go shopping?
Any

What is wrong with the wild and what needs to be changed? Aside from having one of our key players gone all season, and maybe some goal tending (which seems to be better on the road), there's not much I'd change about the team if anything. So, stay on the low end, pay as little as you can while keeping all the good players we have.

That's what they did this past offseason, and if I am not mistaken, they're up in the mid to high 30's as is, so they're plenty over the minimum. I'm sure they're more than content filling their holes with young talent like Volashenko, Pouliot, and Sheppard rather than spend again in free agency.

Well, my opinion, let's pay to keep who we want and then get young talent.

I think the Wild definately need to spend on a big offensive power. Gaborik usually misses some of the season and it looks like the same is happening with Pavol Demitra the last few seasons. Dupuis is on a decline and Rolston cannot handle the offensive burden alone. They seem to be solid enough on defense, but have lost several one goal games. Need to put a few more pucks in the net.

What about the goalies? I like both of them, but could we maybe do better? We are a very defensive team with pretty good offense, not a bad scheme. I'm fine with 1 goal games as long as the Wild have the 1 goal. But we're missing some easy saves.

I think we need defensive help more than we need to mess around with our goaltending. Most of our players(Defenseman especially) aren't known for their physicality. Teams like Anaheim control more of the play against us because of this. We need more depth all around really.

I would love to see them get a big bruising defenseman. I totally agree with your thoughts about Anaheim. They are not only intimidating with their size they can move the puck as well or jump into the play as well.

Kinda ironic that once Gigeure and Pronger got hurt Anaheim has come back to reality. I think Pronger is one of the most underrated players in the league. He was a big reason Edmonton got to the Cup Finals last year.

Knowing this, the Wild need a big stud defenseman. I think they've gone a bit overboard with adjusting to the new rules and going with more of a finesse linup(offensively and defensively) than we should be.
