Post by ALCoach »

Has Anyone heard anything about redistricting of junior gold teams? I know there was some talk about it, but I have not heard anything lately.

Hopefully all Jr. Gold teams will fall under the Metro Hockey league.

D8 should not have there own league for B's. This is a league that has a lot of problems and needs some serious cleaning up, and clean up always starts at the top! The MHL COULD easily take care of these problems that have been sore spots for years.

With the new redistricting that could take place within MNHCOKEY; Albert Lea and Rochester are, unfortunately, looking for a place to play hockey. The two associations can petition the MHL to play in the league, highly recommemnded and get away form the D8 league. I understand that travel will be a HUGE isue, but the MHL is a league that would address these concerns of "outstate" teams.

Yes, D8 offers a palce to play but the Jr. Gold needs involvement from individuals that care about the players, teams, and the league. Now, I have not always liked the MHL for some of there policies or procedures, but I have to compliment and give them credit on cleaning the league up, getting rid of the problems, and making it very respectful hockey.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... troll21 at: 3/29/06 12:50 pm

D8

There is nothing wrong with D8. I dont know what problems you are talking about with D8. Things that happen in D8 are no different than what happens in MHL. D8 will never join the MHL because there is nothing wrong with D8 and the way the league is run.

Even with the redistricting Rochester and Albert Lea will still play in D8. Albert Lea isnt in D8 but their Jr Gold team plays in D8 to have the games.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... httrain at: 3/29/06 2:34 pm

D8 Jr Gold B

Post by Coach77 »

I ran the D8 playoffs for Jr Gold B and we had no problem with players/parents or fans!! The Jr Gold program has come a long ways in the 8 years that i coached it(was a few fights a few years back) But the new rules have cleaned up the game!! The rules are the same for MHL as for D8. So how would this help D8 teams by moving to MHL?? Metro is done some good things for jr gold. But if we can have enough teams to make a league we should have a league. We had teams play in the MHL Jr Gold A/U16 league because we don't have enough teams at them level's!! This season we had 4 ranked teams in LPH and only 2 got to go to STATE
D8 will always let Albert Lea and Rochester join the Jr Gold B league even if they redistricting does happens.
Coach77

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... I hope that this proposal is just speculation. It would be a mistake to combine D8 JRG-B with MHL. Both districts are functioning fine and provide a great environment for the players.
Most D8 teams cannot field JRG-A teams, when they do it is an easy fit into MHL.
If anything, we should be going in the other direction with JRG-B. D8 should receive another seed in the state tournament. This year is a good example; anybody who watched Woodbury play this year knows they should have been a seed at state. The representation is not proportional, D8 should have 3 seeds in state.
Don't the players want the best teams at state? If all the teams were in MHL, what sense would a state tournament make? It would just be a repeat of the district tournament.

How is D8 under-represented at State JGB?

D8 has 9 teams and 2 go to state (22.22%)

MHL has 24 teams and 5 go to state (20.83%)

GOLD has a play-in game with MTL 6th place playoff team.

Looks pretty even-steven on chances to go to state with a slight advantage to D8.

To give D8 three slots would make the D8 advantage even greater - 33.33% to MTL 16.666%

Now if you are talking about strength of teams in the top 5 of each league in a particular year. There is no way to know that 9 months in advance. Some years MTL will be stronger and in others D8 will be stronger. But as far as slots based upon the number of teams in each league - it appears pretty fair.

Congrats to D8 who had a good year at JGB State, winning 3rd place and consolation.
