What is JR Gold?
im dont understand what this league is? is it a level below JV or above? or is it an entirely different league all together...thanks

Re: What is JR Gold?
Jr Gold is basically for the kids that get cut from high school hockey or do not want the commitment of high school hockey. I would probably rate level of play right under Junior Varsity in quality. I think some teams in the cities use it as a feeder program for high school also. I am not sure tho.......

Re: What is JR Gold?
no ... its tougher then Junior Varsity hockey.... cuz i played JV hockey for 2 years and now im playing Jr gold.... because of the players that are way better then JV players that get cut from Hs teams cuz there seniors ... then there is the kids that have bad grade's ... have gotten into trouble and just dont want to play hs hockey .... it isnt as good as varsity .. but its better then JV

Re: What is JR Gold?
Junior Gold does not compare to the top teams in Junior Varsity. Does the Centennial Junior Gold beat there JV? Does Moorhead JG think they can beat the JV? The top schools JV team will smoke the best Junior Gold teams in the state. But I am not saying that all Junior Varsity teams can beat Junior Gold teams. Detroit Lakes JV would probably lose to all the top ten teams in JG.

Re: What is JR Gold?
Talent varies widely from town to town but some Jr Gold A teams that are from larger communities and have a majority of their team composed of seniors are normally better then most JV teams and would compete well against many smaller community Varsity teams. Edina this year is a prime example.

kswiss19. fair analysis. i'll pose a question for epfan since he knows the ep team well. would the ep junior a team give the edina, bloomington jefferson, holy angels or ep jv team a competitive game?

Jr Gold
Kswiss-

Centennial's Jr. Gold would give Centennials JV all they could handle and probably come out on top.

Edina's Jr. Gold would beat their JV with out a question!

Wayzata would compete with their squad without problem.

The top teams in Jr Gold are quality teams and if they had the opportunity to skate everyday they would be even better, but that is the reason most kids play Jr Gold.

Hammer

Re: Jr Gold
hammer. i agree. give them more practice time and watch out. the passion for the game is a key component as well. many kids give up playing if they get washed out of the high school program. wanting to play with their friends is right up there as well.

what about the aha and ep jv squads...would they give the respective junior a teams a game?

JV
I am not trying to talk up MOORHEAD JV, but I do believe that they would smoke any JG team in the state. The reason I believe this is because they have more discipline and run the systems better. I coach at the JG level and played at the varsity level, so I think I can judge the game pretty good. Granted our JG team is not a bunch of all-stars, but they would have a hard time keeping up with our JV. Another factor I guess would depend on if you included fourth line varsity on JV. If you didnt, it would make alot of teams weaker and more comparible to JG.......

Just my .02

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... swiss19 at: 2/21/05 12:33 pm

Re: Jr Gold
Gandy,

You know a lot more about AHA & The EP high school teams than me. I do think that the top two or three lines of the EP Jr. Gold A team would more than compete with the EPJV. Amount of practice time would be a huge factor, but just comparing talent I think it would be a good game. A game that will never be played. How do you think the EPJV or JGA would match up with some of the Twin City single A varsitys like Orono?

Re: JV
kswiss19. when i coached at the youth level a number of years ago i saw beau christian play and was impressed. his family moved to fargo/morehead out of ep. is beau on the varsity or the jv? i've heard conflicting stories. maybe he is on the "swing" goalee line...which usually is very rare! and i'm not surprised that you jv team would dominate your junior a team. at the higher level the jv team is a varsity "developmental" team...get to the next level or wash out. the varsity/jv coaches rarely cycle back a returning junior to play on the jv squad a second year. and speaking of systems, the aha "model" indeed works. i've heard that the aha jv team was weak and disorganized at the beginning of the season. once trebil and elsen got their "model" or "system" gelling that jv team made a compete turn-around. any jv team would be hardpressed now to beat them...mission accomplished.

Re: Beau
Junior gold teams do play HS teams sometimes cuz my team is gonna play a bunch of HS teams coming up soon in scrimmages ... we r gonna play the teams that's seasons are already over ... so ill let you know how that goes if we do actually play them ..

Re: What is JR Gold?
The top Jr Gold A teams will beat 90 - 95% percent of JV teams. The same teams would beat 60 -75% of High school squads.

I agree with Hammerheads' assessment of the teams versus there respective JV programs.

I would also place JR. Gold A above JV. Like I said there is probably 5% of the JV squads that could beat the JR Gold A teams.

Back in 1998/1999 or 1999/2000 when there was a fallout at WBL, I would place that Jr. Gold A team in the top 10 of high school teams.

Re: What is JR Gold?
The wise Troll is rarely wrong. Sounds like a good assessment to me. Dylan, I think you are underestimating how good Jr. Gold A is.

Re: What is JR Gold?
Seriously now, EP I agree with one of your statements that Troll very rarely seems off in his posts, but I just can't support you guys on this one. I have already stated most of my points as to why this would not be possible but still the single biggest determining factors are depth and practice time. Our team hasn't had as many practices as the HS teams had prior to December. On the ice together every day makes a differance. Now the other thing, on every single team in the entire state there are players that got cut, did not make the HS team. Ok so here is where you say "But they are seniors and blah blah blah". Great! But how many aren't? I also can tell you that having a senior is not always a blessing. I look forward to hearing your rebutals on this covering some of the points I speak of in this and previous threads....

crackheads
I'm sick of Love but I'm in the thick of it

Re: What is JR Gold?
JG also has 2 maby 3 x as manny games tho....and some players do get alot better playing JG .. like my freind was the goalie for Duluth last year .. and it was his 1st year ever playing goalie and he got cut from denfeld ... and now this year he is there starting goalie ...and they didnt loose there good goalie after last season either

Re: What is JR Gold?
Way back when I was in school in 92, the EP JG played the JV after school with about half of the students watching. That JG team was a middle of the pack team, around .500, did not make to regions or anything like that. The JV team lost one game or two games all year and usually won by a bunch of goals. It was a good game, but the JG won 6-3. In 94, I was on the EP JG team which was one of the top 3 in the state that year and some people thought we could beat the varsity. That was wishful thinking, and that varsity team was very mediocre at best.

Bottom line, the good (top 5) JG teams in the state would beat all of the JVs most of the time as well as beating most of the smaller town high school teams. When I played, a lot of the single A High School teams only had a JG team and they weren't very competitive at that level. I have only seen the EP and Jefferson JG teams play the last few years, but from what I can tell the level of hockey at the JG level is only improving. Now it could be that EP has so many good players because of the abundance of students they have that they can produce a great team, but we had a really good team back when I played and I didn't get the impression we would take their squad this year.

Just a few thoughts from an alumni.
