I'm a big fan of Roseville, but I have to say this is the easiest section in class AA. There really isn't one legitimate challenger, at least this year. Hastings has been playing OK but they have been very inconsistent lately (beating Cretin and Minnetonka but losing to Sibley?). Everyone else in the section is having an off year.

I think there is a lot more pairity statewide this year, but that aside the favorite RV shouldn't look past HM & others in the section quite yet. When Sibley gets healthy they could make some noise too, and with the goaltending Woodbury has??? Hastings with Welch and a solid group can't be overlooked. Should be interesting to see how this one plays out, and I expect some good games come section SF even with an amazing RV team leading the pack... Too many of these teams are just too deep...

The bracket has been completed for 2AA on the MSHSL website. It's the first one filled in I think. It looks pretty much as expected. HM gets #2 seed over Hastings....best game 1st round Woodbury at Sibley. Hastings vs HM possibility in round 2 would be a tough defensive game-- HM 1.7 GA, Hastings 2.1 GA.

At the Vet last night (2AA Semis)

Hastings 1 HM 0
The Hastings goalie (Lindsey Kleis) is a small, wiry, athletic type and was all over the ice last night. Excellent game for her--she was the difference and a lot of fun to watch.
Roseville 3 Sibley 0
Shots were around 30-6. Not as competitive as the score would indicate. Roseville is just so fast. They were a littlle sloppy around the Sibley net, some missed opportunities.
They've outscored Hastings 10-1 in their two games this year, the only two games all season that Kleis has given up 4 or more goals.

Since there don't seem to be any Roseville boosters on the forum, I'll give a rundown--I've seen them 7 or 8 times as a more or less neutral observer at the beginning of the season (I'm a big fan now).
They have the best team speed I've seen this year (including EP,BSM and AHA, although I didn't see Edina). They have one true superstar and possibly the best freshman class in the state. Some of their 'supporting' cast upperclassmen would be stars on other teams (Babineau, Flanagan, Hoium).
What might be overlooked is their excellent defense--they always out-shoot their opponents (Edina managed only 11 shots) and give up very few quality shots (tonight in the 2AA Final they outshot Hastings around 30-15 and I don't remember one true quality chance by Hastings). Part of that is they win the race to just about every loose puck and then control the puck so well, defense and forwards. They are as tenacious as any team at the forecheck (along with Stillwater and EP) as well as backcheck. They are tough--Hastings pummeled them tonight and they bounced back up every time and never missed a beat.
They split their goaltending duties between Brausen and Kapsner, both are solid (GAA of 1.0 and 1.6), although I've never really seen them 'tested'. They're very well coached and they skate 3 lines almost exclusively. The one possible weakness they've shown lately is not being able to score on all of their good oppurtunities. They should have had a couple more against Sibley on Thursday and also tonight, but who's complaining?
