Since the board is going to get quiet
because of my user name you all probably know that I support cretin-derham hall hockey. And heres what I think for next year.

The raiders are going to be a very good team next year. Im going to proclaim right now that CDH is going to win their section next year and go to state. Here is what Im basing that off of.

The only real impact player the raiders are losing is Matt Hickey. Hickey was a solid defensemen/forward who put up 47 points this year. The raiders also lose Dan Hirtz who had 25 points this year. but why the raiders are going to be good is this:

Returning players and their point total this year:

Chris Hickey, in only his sophomore year, led the team in goals with 24 and tallied 40 points this year.

Soph. Ryan McDunaugh had 12 goals and 30 points
soph. sean scott had 8 goals and 16 points.
Junior Cory Kieger, after missing much of the season is easily the best player on this team and had 14 points this year
Jr. Ben Kinne had 7 goals and 13 points
The list goes on...

Anyways, what do the people on this board think of the Raiders chances next year to go to state.
For all of those who hate the raiders, let me know why you think they are going to suck next year.

Any thoughts on the coach Sean Toomey? He's been getting a little heat and im wondering if you guys have any opinion on him.

Also, for all you STA fans what do you think next years game is going to be like?

Cretin
They will have a good team no doubt. I said late in this year that along with the usual Hill/SSP combo, I am going to try to watch more Cretin games next year. Hickey is an excellent offensive player from the times i've seen him.

Lets see what the MSHSL does with the sections before we proclaim them the 2AA favorite, but Tartan will be down and Stewart wont be playing for Hastings so they will be very young, if the section were to stay the way it is, I agree Cretin is the favorite.

Re: Since the board is going to get quiet
Anyone know if the rumors about Roseville joining 2AA are true? In all honesty section 2AA hasnt been too tough the last 3 or 4 years and could use another 'elite' team like Roseville to join the ranks. i dont know much about roseville but obviously they are a good program. I think the 2AA storyline should be a pretty good one for next year.

St. Thomas guys...no one has bashed CDH yet. Im waiting for it!

here ill start something up. The game this year I would truthfully say that CDH looked like a better team. They controlled the action most of the game and hit way too many pipes. If they would have put the puck away it could have been a 5-2 game CDH.

Just thought Id try to start something for sake of discussion. Normally I wouldnt start something with a team that we lost to the last two years, but hockey was never my number one sport.

The rumor is that it could be Hill and not Roseville joining the 2AA party, which would be too bad to split them and WBL up, but thats just a rumor right now.

Also, 2AA was really only down last year, this year I think Tartan proved they were better than anyone thought, and before that for about 5-6 years Hastings or Roseville brought home hardware every year from state. 2AA is fine, but personally i'd like to see Roseville back in there. Cretin will be good again and Hastings bantams I believe are in the state tourney, Woodbury could be good in any given year if kids dont leave.

bitter ones at that. the kids all come from the same area and played with/against eachother growing up.

Hockey now is the only sport that stays competitive between them though at the varsity level.

STA/Cretin
Off the topic a little, but as far as I know the basketball rivalry is still big and competitive, and football would be but they dont play each other.

Regardless, I believe the hockey game was close this year as it always is, and both schools had young teams this year and will be even better next year. How are the classes coming in next year?

Well, those statistics and points are are all real nice, and yes, they are going to have a lot of guys back... BUT they are going to be in the SEC conference next year, and well now quite as soft as what they have been playing... They may win their section, but not the conference!

-The Slinger

Como going A
There will for sure be some shake up in 2AA because Como is going class A. I also heard Hastings could be moved to be with teams closer in geography. The rumor is this opens the door for Hill, Roseville, North St Paul. Two of these teams could end up in 2AA.

Closer to Hastings Geographically???

Hastings borders Cottage Grove who is also in 2AA and is not far from Woodbury, also 2AA. These are also Hastings biggest rivals. They will stay in 2AA, but i'm sure a team will be added.

Re: STA/Cretin
Yes, i forgot about the basketball rivalry, that is still a very good one. And the last two years CDH and St. Thomas played football the first game of the year with CDH winning both, 42-7(then we put in the girl that was on our team and tried to have her score a touchdown, the pass was intercepted and returned for a TD. ended 42-10) and last year 35-0, so I would say the football game is a big rivalry, but not even close to being competitive.

As for gunslinger- I think CDH played a really tough schedule this year. They finally got out of the St. Paul City like 3 or 4 years ago and coach toomey got a lot of top notch teams on the schedule this year. I think in that pagestat2 thingys they had like a top 25 strength of schedule, and I thought it was tougher than that.

But you are right, the SEC is going to be a very fun conference for them to play in. Maybe they will take a few lumps, but it should help them when sections come around.

As for the shakeups, i found on another thread a link to the new 2005-6, and 2006-7 sections and section 2AA stayed the same, i was pretty disappointed.
