I hope it gets better then this!

Post by shutout »

I certainly hope that tonights games are more exciting then this afternoons class "A" games. The outstate teams are showing why this should be a 16 team one class tournament. Warroad will bring some credibility to the outstate teams tonight, but Wadena ( 1 loss all year) showed that there is not much in the depth chart in class A when you leave the metro area.

Metro 16 - Outstate 2 so far!

Warroad and Hibbing

Talk about your knee jerk reactions there, shutout. You can't tell me anyone really expected either Albert Lea or Wadena to do anything in this tournament...

Warroad and Hibbing will take care of things tonight.

There will always be certain sections that are weaker than others, and the tournament will always reflect that unless they drastically change the format....(back door, for example).

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... ckey096 at: 3/10/04 5:42 pm

Wadena

Post by shutout »

Hockey096:
All we heard all year was that Wadena was the only undefeated team until the last two weeks of the season. I wonder why there wasn't a team that could beat them up there all season and they come down here and get spanked by SSP who isn't even the best team in the metro in class A. My point is there is not enough depth to have a class A tournament, they need to go back to a one class tournament and have 16 teams instead of 8.

Class A

Post by hocke101 »

I disagree, I think that there is enough depth but the sections are just aligned wrong. You will never have a good state tournament if all the talented teams are in three or four sections especially with five. If you realigned them better we would see a good class A field too.

How would you handle Section Alignment?

Post by BSU Beavers »

Everyone keeps complaining about these Sections are too weak and need to be realigned. How come no one ever posts a solution to this problem?

The MSHSL does it based on geography and trying to keep the sections balanced based on number of members, not competition. If you want to go with competition, you would have to wait until the last week to know what section you are going to be playing in.

Strengths of teams and of Sections go up and down year by year. The MSHSL does a very nice job, all things considered.

Your a parent??

Post by 1hockeyluver »

To Hockeydad: you should be ashamed of yourself with your last post. Your obviously an adult, which really says a lot about your maturity. Your son/daughter must be embarrsed that their father posts such dumb statements. This game was between Warroad and Orono KIDS. Cary Eades (warroad coach) gave the puck to the orono kid who scored during the line up. If Cary and the Warroad team can take defeat with a grain of salt, who are you to rub it in??

p.s. I can't believe your a parent! Seriously what do you do for a living? bash high schoolers? grow up!

The 10-1 and 6-1 scores that you say today are going to be nothing after Warroad plays Cathedral then either Wadena or Albert Lea in the consolation championship. I predict a 15-0 win in the C.C. for Warroad. Its going to be a real joke.

Metro Dominates!

Post by shutout »

Metro 18 - Outstate 3:

Well so far the outstate teams are taking a beating, does anyone feel like me that the competition the outstate teams face especially in playoffs hurts them to prepare for this tournament. While the metro teams have to face much better competition and are "battle tested" by the time they get here!

Hockeydad is a user-id only. I do not believe that the parent wrote that statement. I know that there are many people on this board who have user names but the whole family uses them. Anyway, with all the bashing that goes on here what did you expect?

Dont get down on hockey dad, I am surehe has a reason to post what he did. It was a hell of a game but Warroad stood around way to much, Orono wanted this one more. I guess most of us Warroad people didn't except the whole we want revange factor that Orono was comming into this game with. Good Luck to them cause they played with all heart last night and Warroad just went through the motions out there!

I'm sick of this ripping on so called crap teams in the tourney, if you don't like it, then dont watch it. Their are some positives for teams like Albert Lea, Wadena, St. Cloud Cathedral, Tartan, for making the tourney. It will expand interest into the sport of hockey and we need more of that widespread in Minnesota. Think some young kid from Albert Lea that doesnt know anything about hockey goes to the tourney game to get out of school, ends up loving hockey and ten years from now he's the best player in the state. Get over yourself and remember it's not just for you.

Way to go RinkRat!! you are correct. The fact that they made it there is what should be celebrated, not whether the section is set up not to the liking of many people. Section one in both classes cover teams in the lower third of the state out of the metro. Burnsville used to be in that section and now Lakeville. I would expect, soon, Lakeville will have to move sections and Section 1 will move to the boundries of Northfield. I say they all deserve to be there for playing the sport they love to the best of their ability.

Rinkrat:

If you don't like what you read on here then don't read it, or is it a one way street with you. How many threads have been on here saying how great Warroad and Wadena WERE? Well they came down here and got a big dose of reality. I would be careful to befriend Zamman if I were you, AHA is losing several players to Ann Arbor next year and he will be coming to your program to recruit your best players!

"Rinkrat:

If you don't like what you read on here then don't read it, or is it a one way street with you."

You seem to think you have the right to watch and criticize certain teams. So why doesn't he have the right to read and criticize certain posts?

If you didn't have such a selective memory, you'd remember that not only did people NOT start threads "all year long" about how good Wadena was, but the majority of the posts were about how over-rated they were.

The problem has absolutely nothing to do with the depth of Class A. Its the section alignment. The only way to solve that is to juggle the sections each and every year based on talent, to "insure" the best teams go to State. A solid win for Hibbing and the Northern teams. Wow did the Walter Boys dominate that game. I just wish the single A tourney would be more exciting to watch. For one thing what is South St. Paul doing in A and not AA. Private schools shouldnt be in single A either.

I was looking forward to watching Centennial and Holy Angels too, but was i disappointed. That had to be one of the most boring games ever. There were only 2 plays worth watching in the whole game. Tartan vs. Wayzata isnt much better either. Hopefully the nite games will be good though.

Rinkrat
Thanks, Before the Albert Lea team left town the whole team after practice had a skate with Tigers for all the youth hockey kids. It was great to see 200 kids and the varsity out on the ice together, it was all smiles. And to some this is the greatest thing thats ever happened for Albert Lea hockey. Were just so happy down here. We do hope they have a good showing but the event is way more important than the top 16 teams being at state.

Reality check

Post by shutout »

Let's see slappy you braggers sat on the "Section 8 dominates A and AA" thread until it filled the 500 maximum and told us all how great you were and that was fine and now reality hits and you can give it but you can't take it! Genuises like you need to try to develop some talent up there and give your teams some competition so they can be prepared when they come to the big show. If you want to see some "real hockey" come and watch the Wayzata vs. Centennial game Friday night, we have several teams of that caliber in the metro.

I hadn't checked the board much today, but I find that I've been getting ripped for a comment knocking Warroad.

the comment wasn't meant to rip warroad, and if it was taken that way, I apologize.

I was responding to Spudspuckemup's comment which was

"warroad will take care of that. they'll roll over anybody "

My response was

"Yup, they sure did. Countless posts questioned Orono's toughness because they come from a supposedly weak section.

Spudspuckemup implied that Warroad was going to roll over the competition, including Orono.

I was just pointing out he was wrong. didn't mean to rip on Warroad.
