Can it get any worse?

Post by larsey »

This has to be one of the worst 3 game series in Mn. Twins history. 9-0, 18-1, 6-0. That would be 33-1 in favor of the motor city. If anyone knows of a worse "Twins" butt kicking, please POST IT!

This has to be up there for one of the all-time worst series ever, not just in Twins history. I have never seen a team look so outmatched and so flat. This thing needs to be turned around in a hurry, or like Irishmans Shanty said, we could be seeing an exodus to the likes of the Florida Marlins around the trade deadline.

No it cant But...how can it be this bad?

There are obviously a lot of people on the bored who know a tad bit about baseball and follow the Twins. Everybody was optimistic about having a good season.

I cant believe they can be this bad.

I think a lot of fans were optimistic simply because they have had success in the recent past. I see the Twins slow downward spiral as similar to that of the Vikings and Twolves. The Vikings peaked in 1998 with their 15-1 season, rallied somewhat in 2000, but never regained their late 90's offensive dominance despite having many of the same pieces or comparable to new pieces. The Wolves peaked in '03 and have steadily declined over the last three seasons. The Twins are now following the Vikes and Wolves to the land of mediocrity. Also like the Vikes and Wolves, the Twins have kept a nucleus and added some decent new pieces (Mauer, Castillo, Santana), however the original framework (Hunter, Radke) is now gone or unable to carry the load anymore.

The '02 Twins run to a 1-0 lead in the ALCS may be something Twins fan remember for sometime, simply because I believe that post season excitement will not be seen for a long, long, long time. The '02 roster had fewer stars than they have now. They were just a bunch of guys who liked each other, grew together in the farm system together, played fundamental baseball in a stadium with obvious home advantages, played with an us against the world mentality, and were the beneficiary of a division that had three really bad teams

At Home

Post by boblee »

The Twins seem to play very well at home...so maybe they will win 5 of 7 and get back around the .500 mark. I believe a 5-2 homestand would put them at 14-15...not terrible
Grand Rapids-2006 State Runner Up

Twins are now 9-16, and the White Sox are miles away in the standings. Time to rebuild.

The play on the field the last week has been disturbing, but what I saw in the dugout from tonight's coverage is far worse. I observed a bench of talented professionals that are clearly beaten. Tonight they were in a new city, with a new pitcher, against a new opponent...and what happened? The same thing. This season will be a disaster, it's only a matter of time before they come apart, the only question is; will it be from management or from the inside out.

I'd rather see Kubel flail at pitches and hit .170 than White struggle and hit .132. No matter what White won't be here next year, might as well let him go now and let Kubel get a fair shot.

NL pitchers with a higher BA than Rondell White include:
Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, Dontrelle Willis, Livan Hernedez, Greg Maddox, Mark Mulder, Sydney Ponson, Brad Penny, and 4 of the 5 starters for the Giants.

Of the 3 major free agent signings this off season, Sierra has been hurt, White is just flat out bad, and Batista is offensively comparable to Koskie in everything but BA where Koskie has him beat by 30 points, and not anywhere as good defensively as Koskie. Terry Ryan has done a good job in the past with little money, but once Carl opened up the purse strings some Ryan has done worse than the proverbial blind squirrel.

People complained about the former batting coach but (I forget his name) he looks like Pete Rose compared to Vavra.

Which was worse?

Post by ChrisK »

The Vikings this past September or the Twins this past April? The Strib just had an article about how bad the sports teams have been recently, I guess it's time to start putting the bags over our heads. I can't even watch them right now.

I really don't know where to start with this club, they had a good stretch of games against Oakland and the Yankees and have been absolutely brutal otherwise. They're on the verge of running off the track if they haven't already.

It's obviously too early to throw in the towel, but it might not be long before we start seeing the future of the Twins. The likes of Kubel, Bonser, Span, Rabe, etc. may very well be called up in the middle of summer. Many of our veterans may be out the door and many others may be out the door after season's end.

It's fortunate the referendum was not included in the stadium bill, since this recent run of baseball isn't exactly exciting fans about the prospects of a winning team in Minnesota.

I think the Twins better start thinking about what they are going to do after Radke gets shelled tonight by the KC Royals.

Its over with for the guy with all the guile who eats up all those innings and 9 million in salary.

But hey, he proved last year that he has a great mind for management and could be a third base coach so we could still have him as part of the organization.

If one could get a copy of Lew Ford's birth certificate you would find that he is the lovechild of Greg Maddux and Willie McGee. Maddux gave Lew his looks and Willie gave him the wheels and the ability to pound balls straight into the turf for high chopping infield singles.

Promising

Post by Wild4hockey »

There is something promising to the Twins. They are 4-1 in 1-run games this year. That is how you build confidence. They had better turn it around in May or it will be like an export frenzy in Minnesota.

As for Radke lets hope he is turning it around, but the sun shines on a dogs @#% once in a while.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... 4hockey at: 5/4/06 10:26 am

Santana has no-hitter through 6 today, finishes going 7IP, 4H, BB, 2ER, 11K, very good outing. Hunter made an unbelievable catch. So far it's been a good series, if the Twins can finish out the win.

Post by packerboy »

Taking 2 of 3 from Detroit is good. Santana looks like he is back. Hunter is hitting and making big plays. Silva pitched well, even it was against KC. Castillo is good.

Because Cleveland and Chicago have much better personel, I doubt the Twins will make the playoffs but there is still hope of an 85 game win season.

I am still watching.

If they play up to their abilities, they can win the division still, but that's a big IF.
Grand Rapids-2006 State Runner Up
