Ok, I am not getting any suggestions so I will shift this a bit....what type of off season training do the gals do that do not live close to the metro areas OR do they travel to the metro areas for off season training?

If they travel to the metro, what training do they typically participate in?

Thanks.

Ma,

I know this might be a stretch in todays world but players should be able to work out on their own. I'm sure there is an outdoor rink up north, that's the perfect training area. Perfect for sprint, jumps, hops and shooting if you have a smooth surface. Not enough players today do it, but those who do and stay comitted will show improvement.

If you are looking for some type of league... you may have to travel.

Re: Off Season Northwest or Central MN?
Every D1 program usually has some sort of individual training manual/routine/program that they send to their players to do to train for the upcoming season on their own off-ice wise.

Getting some ice time would help too, but leagues/games are typically a waste. If there is no better option, then go with them, but otherwise best to do some sort of prolonged skill specific training vs. games/leagues/tourneys - BUT - some ice is better than none too I suppose...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 3/13/06 11:23 pm

(For SportsMa)
Isn't there CODP tryouts / league scattered throughout areas of MN? Doesn't Moorhead have a site, or am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Artificial Ice at: 3/14/06 12:28 pm

Re: Off Season Northwest or Central MN?
Moorhead will not be a CODP site this year according to CODP headquarters information I received via email.

Our daughter works out on a slide board regularly, loves to spend time shooting and stick handling (I swear that is relaxing to her) and the school has a speed/agility program and weight lifting program that she is involved with off season. They are tweaking it to be be more sports specific. The local ice goes off the end of this month and does not return until October so we do drive if she wants to skate during the off season which she loves to skate, too. She enjoys being active (her choice) with a couple other sports, music and academics but she was asking for more possibilities for hockey and I was curious what others in non-metro areas do. It sounds like we are on the right track. Thanks again for the replies. I really appreciated them.
