Re: 12/1
AA - EP is clear cut #1, hands down. And they still may not even make state. Wayzata matches up well. Stillwater dominated by SSP, however, will be a huge factor end of year. Very deep team. Centennial at 7??? No, very overrated. Benildes only at 8th? Behind Centennial? Come on. NSP not top 5, they are in next 5 -- AHA and Benildes are better than them along with EP,Stillwater, Wayazata and possibly Roseville. No depth at NSP. Interested to see if Sibley is legit cusp ranked team - hard to believe they would have enough O??? Havent seen them but they are off to impressive start.

A - SSP is top 3 or 4 team in state period. How is New Prague behind Warroad? They beat SSP in scrimmage. Blake solid, aberration against Benildes. Farmington overrated, goaltending very weak, nothing beyond good 1st line. How is Simley ranked? 3-3-1, lost to a terrible Woodbury team and tied Sartell??? I heard Silver Bay was very tough for SSP this past weekend and are a solid young and physical
team.

Who are the rankers?
While we await the next "poll" of our teams, I'm curious as to who the people are that rank the teams for LPH? Seems they have a lot of influence there - college coaches looking for the next hot star are not going to go out of their way to watch an unranked team play.

So who are the rankers? Coaches? LPH staffers? Enquiring minds want to know....

I would suspect that Bill Quinn is probably involved. He sees a ton of girls games and is pretty knowledgable about girls hockey.

Re: Who are the rankers?
Yes, I would like to know who rates the teams also? In the paper this week I saw a poll with Farmington in top 5 in "A"??? They were destroyed by New Prague last night and in only other good team they played were destroyed by SSP. Simley still got votes in A with 7 losses??? How many class "A" teams are there? I get that polls dont mean much, but just seems odd.

Who does everyone think is the best team in metro is besides EP and SSP? My vote goes for Stillwater....

Re: who are the rankers?
mnhockeygal according to the high school league there are approximately 56 teams in girls class A hockey and 62 in class AA. I agree with your choice of Stillwater and would add Roseville with them. I am not sure how NSP will be yet, i need to see them play some tougher competition like in the kaposia classic.

Re: who are the rankers?
After witnessing the God awful display vs Richfield last evening you may want to supplant SSP with your 2 choices of Roseville and Stillwater!!! Not good hockey. NSP will knowck them for a loop come Tues if SSP doesnt play 5 times better than last night. I totally agree on you adding in Roseville by the way.

NSP can be stopped if you commit to it... by shadowing Hogan and Thunstrom you can take them out of their game like Park CG did. But you gotta muster more shots then we did or its all for naught...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... WOLFPACK VOICE
It also helps to have your goaltender stand on her head !
She robbed the polars of 7 - 9 goals in that game . Many off
the sticks of the 2 players you mentioned , my hats off to Park
on playing a great game , BUT , the score was way closer than the game actually was .. NSP out shot them 35 - 10 .
IMHO.. NSP is a bit overranked right now , but , they have also been playing great hockey . They have the ability to beat
anyone that they play , and they also have the ability to lose
any game that they play , they are for the most part very
inexperienced at the varsity level , They are however learning
and improving everyday , I believe they will be in the hunt at
the end of the year , I also believe that they will have a huge
battle ahead , trying to win the section ... WOW ... The semi
final match-ups , have the potential to be GREAT ! And you
still have to earn your right to play in them .

Re: WOLFPACK VOICE
dog,

i have to agree that i think nsp is a little over rated at this point. they need to play better teams than they have been playing and that will start tonight. by the end of the year they will be better but i think the light early schedule will be its downfall...

#10 Shakopee beat #6 Farmington... wouldn't that bring Farmington down a bit?

rankings
From another thread:
Quote:
How does SSP lose 4 games in a row and only move down one spot (from 1 to 2) in the rankings (and still get 3 first place votes)? Also Blake wins the Class A level Schwan's Cup defeating Warroad fairly decisively and yet not jump over Warroad in the rankings?

Quote:
As for SSP, the silly thing being, that yes any team who goes 0-4-1 should drop from top 10 all together let alone yes, should be far more than going down just 1 spot. However, the sad thing is they clearly are one of the 2 or 3 best A teams

First, as has been pointed out before, the LPH rankings isn't an objective process, unlike the KRACH rankings, (which also has its quirks.) Right now, I don't thing any single A team is playing better than Blake. They'e be #1 in my poll, followed by Warroad, but SSP and Totino-Grace would be right behind them. So, yes, I agree with both the above opinions. SSP should be lower than #2, but only to 3 ro 4.
As for double AA, Elk River went on a great winning streak over top teams, but is ranked only 15th. I also believe Eagan will eventually drop, but maybe not until later January, after a stretch when they play Eden Prairie, Rosevile and Burnsville. (Eastview could also give them a challenge with their ability to score goals.)

Re: 2/2
SSP being ranked #1 is almost as bad as Simley not even getting any votes! Blake and Hibbing deserve to be ahead of SSP. Someone explain how Hibbing, who have nearly same record and same tough schedule as SSP , is ranked behind them??? Blake can be slightly penalized for very weak schedule, but seems clear they are worthy to be ranked anywhere from 1,2 or 3. Hibbing however should be an easy choice to be ahead of SSP.

Re: 2/2
I've been very impressed by Hibbing as of late as well, but also all year. Outstanding team, and they are definitely one of the very top in A and can compete at the AA level too we've seen!

This should go in the 4A thread but GAL brings up a good topic and I'm curious what other people think - who should be a higher seed in 4A of Blake & SSP? I think I have my mind made up but I'm waiting to see the last games before the meeting on Sun.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ckeyfan at: 2/2/06 9:22 am

Re: 2/2
From what I have seen and heard, I think Blake has shown to possibly be the better team because it has been more consistent, and not played down to competition or just failed to show up as SSP has. To sum it up, I believe SSP "A" is superior to Blake, but too often SSP has not had its "A" game and therefore I think they very well could be beaten by Blake. However, I do have to say this. I believe, based on SSP playing a very difficult schedule, and almost more importantly, Blake playing a weak schedule, SSP should get the nod for top seed. There shouldnt be any outrage it it doesnt happen, but my feeling is SSP should be #1 seed in section.

Re: 2/2
I've heard similar rationale/considerations from other coaches/fans as well. I think it could go either way for many of the consideration points that you mention (these are the key points (in GAL's post) for consideration I believe). I have my mind pretty well set too, but always good to see what others are thinking and why. THANKS!

Consistency is sometimes overlooked, but it is something that should be considered along with SOS and record, etc. once you get past head-to-head and common opponents I believe. Of course, head-to-head #1 and common opponents #2 are always first as they should be before you get down to the other considerations like #3) record/SOS/consitency/etc.

Problem w/Blake & SSP is that there aren't head-to-head contests and so we must look at common opponents, and you also need to look at other considerations besides just these two as cited by GAL.

BLAKE:
11/12/05 Minnetonka (Blake) W 3-1
11/19/05 @Edina (Braemar) T 2-2
11/22/05 Richfield W 4-1
11/25/05 @Benilde-St. Margaret's -- Red Knight Invitational L 0-7
11/26/05 @Warroad -- Red Knight Invitational L 3-4
12/03/05 Henry Sibley (Blake School Arena) W 3-2
12/10/05 St. Paul Blades** (Highland Park) W 6-2
12/14/05 St. Paul United** W 10-0
12/17/05 @Minneapolis Novas** (Parade) W 8-1
12/20/05 @Wayzata (Plymouth) L 2-3
12/22/05 Cretin-Derham Hall T 1-1
12/27/05 @St. Louis Park -- Schwans Cup W 7-1
12/28/05 Totino Grace -- Schwans Cup W 4-0
12/29/05 Warroad -- Schwan Cup W 5-3
01/03/06 @Breck** W 4-2
01/05/06 Saints (St. Agnes/St. Bernard's/Concordia/St. Croix Lutheran)** W 7-1
01/07/06 @Minnehaha Academy** W 13-0
01/14/06 @Owatonna W 7-0
01/17/06 Saints (St. Agnes/St. Bernard's/Concordia/St. Croix Lutheran)** W 9-1
01/21/06 @St. Paul Blades** (Highland North) L 2-4
01/24/06 Minneapolis Novas** (Blake Arena) W 6-1
01/26/06 @Rochester Mayo (Rochester Graham West) W 3-2
01/28/06 @St. Paul United** W 7-0
01/31/06 Minnehaha Academy** W 6-0
02/04/06 Breck**

SSP:
11/15/05 Totino Grace W 4-1
11/17/05 @Centennial W 3-0
11/19/05 @Hastings W 3-0
11/22/05 Farmington W 9-0
11/26/05 @Stillwater W 6-2
12/02/05 @Proctor/Herm/Marshall W 9-2
12/03/05 @Two Harbors W 4-0
12/06/05 @Rochester Mayo (Rochester Graham West) W 3-1
12/08/05 @Wayzata (Plymouth) W 4-3
12/16/05 Richfield** W 2-0
12/20/05 @North St. Paul** L 0-3
12/23/05 Hill-Murray** T 3-3
12/29/05 Blaine -- Kaposia Classic L 0-3
12/30/05 Hibbing/Chisholm -- Kaposia Classic L 1-2
12/31/05 @Roseville -- Kaposia Classic L 2-3
01/03/06 Mahtomedi** (Wakota Arena) W 3-1
01/06/06 @Simley** (Veterans Memorial Community Center) W 8-0
01/10/06 Henry Sibley** W 5-1
01/14/06 Edina (Wakota Arena) L 0-4
01/17/06 @Richfield** W 5-0
01/20/06 North St. Paul** L 4-6
01/24/06 @Hill-Murray** W 5-2
01/27/06 @Mahtomedi** W 2-1
01/31/06 Simley** (Wakota Civic Arena) W 3-2
02/03/06 @Henry Sibley**

#1) NO HEAD-TO-HEAD

#2) COMMON OPPONENTS:

11/15/05 Totino Grace SSP W 4-1
12/28/05 Totino Grace -- Schwans Cup BLK W 4-0

12/06/05 @Rochester Mayo (Rochester Graham West) SSP W 3-1
01/26/06 @Rochester Mayo (Rochester Graham West) BLK W 3-2

12/08/05 @Wayzata (Plymouth) SSP W 4-3
12/20/05 @Wayzata (Plymouth) BLK L 2-3

11/22/05 Richfield BLK W 4-1
12/16/05 Richfield** SSP W 2-0
01/17/06 @Richfield** SSP W 5-0

12/03/05 Henry Sibley (Blake School Arena) BLK W 3-2
01/10/06 Henry Sibley** SSP W 5-1
02/03/06 @Henry Sibley** SSP

11/19/05 @Edina (Braemar) BLK T 2-2
01/14/06 Edina (Wakota Arena) SSP L 0-4

#3) RECORD & SOS:

TEAM KRACH RATING SOS RK SOS RATING W L T
South St. Paul 214.915 6 33.000 17 6 1
Blake 171.101 54 54.500 18 4 2
