Class of 2011 All-Star Team (Juniors/11th Graders Now)

Post by ghshockeyfan »

While I don't typically advocate for such young players bypassing youth eligibility so soon, and I don't want to glorify this option, I do think that there are some that are talented enough to warrant recognition - and many are still hopefully playing U14 (if not U12!!!)...<br><br>What 2011/7th's are out there that we should be watching for? These players may likely not be at the HS level yet... unless they are indeed that talented (and ready for the maturity, etc. that is needed to tackle HS Hockey at such a young age)...<br><br>Some of these gals may be listed in the 2010 thread too by mistake...<br><br><!--EZCODE AUTOLINK START--><a href="http://p100.ezboard.com/fmnhsfrm7.showM ... <!--EZCODE AUTOLINK END--> <p></p><i></i>

Both U12A so I assume they are 7th graders...<br><br>Hannah Brandt, F, White Bear Lake--standout who leads defending state champ U12A team who are again #1 ranked. Great hands, strong moves, instincts and patience. Would contribute on many HS teams right now.<br><br>Sami Reber, F, Edina-- strong upside, gutsy player<br>-----<br><br>...and yes, IGH should be in the top 10<br><br>[edit: corrected spelling] <p></p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... pitreal</A> at: 12/5/05 5:25 pm<br></i>

Thanks!<br><br>Also, Chloe Billadeau - U12A #30 G - on the top ranked Chaska team hasn't yet been listed among the 2011s but in time someone will/should. She is absolutely a candidate for the best goalie I've seen in her age group in the state. She's going to have a great time when she gets to a HS program in the coming years.<br><br>She has a cousin - Kallie Billadeau - who is an up-and-coming 8th grade G for the Hopkins HS team that's off to a great start too. She played against Simley in Hopkins 4-2 EN win just before Thanksgiving. <p></p><i></i>

I am quite certain that the above mentioned Hannah Brandt is only a 6th grader, but everything else you mentioned is definetly true... she seems to be the real deal! <p></p><i></i>

From what I have heard, Hannah has an older sister (7th grader) that should be under consideration for your "2011 team". She is quite a fluid skater, & has a huge upside to her. Together she and Hannah were key players in the games (U12A) that I saw last year for the WBL team that won the 12A State championship. Together this year again with her sister, the team is again ranked #1 and are undefeated as far as I can tell. Definetly a pair to watch! <p></p><i></i>

alright, if you post here, i beleive you should also state why they should be considered high school "allstars" when they are in 7th grade.. honestly<br>minus the fact the topic alone is kind of rediculous... <p></p><i></i>

Been waiting for someone to say this...<br><br>This is only as rediculous as the fact that they are allowed to play HS hockey to begin with! <p></p><i></i>

Where's the harm?

Post by nottachance »

So where's the harm in discussing girl's hockey at all levels? Youth teams are producing some fine players all over the state, more of the younger girls are displacing the older on those varsity rosters each year now.<br><br>In girls they can play varsity and, yeah, they can be on the first line in 8th grade. Even 7th although rare.<br><br>guess what, that 8th grader with the 1991 birthdate is eligible for ndp phase 1 next spring just like the older gals <p></p><i></i>

Any others that we should add to this list and/or any standout performances this season by kids in this group listed above, etc.? <p></p><i></i>

Go up to St. Cloud at the end of March to see most of the top 92s (late 8ths/early 7ths). Many of the kids on your 8th grade post will be present. This is the oldest year for the selects. <p></p><i></i>

Katy Kvasnicka (Mankato West) is a talented young player. She had 14 goals and 10 assts. in her first varsity season. <p></p><i></i>

i dont know if you've heard of her, but her name is Meghan Lorence. anyway shes in 8th grade, and she is currently 25th in state in points. she also led Irondale and points last year. Irondale is loaded with young talent, and one of the matchups today that intrigues me is Irondale vs. Forest Lake.

Meghan is a phenominal athlete. She would also be a varisty softball player but district rules don't allow it.
Her older sister was quite good too!!!

Maybe we should wait for these two to be on a High School team first.

Keep an eye on Alyssa Veil #10 from Blake, she should be an upcoming force.

Hannah Brandt is a 7th grader with a 1993 Birthdate. Her older sister Marissa is an 8th grader with a 1992 Birthdate. Both are awsome players for the white bear lake team. Another player that is awesome on that U14 A team is Samantha Hanson who is about 5 ft 7 or 8, and is a 1993 birthdate, she can flat out play. I watched them at the their thanksgiving tournament. She was playing forward, but is a Defenseman by choice.

NSP has two 8th graders that are good players Samantha Knutson and Stefanie Anderson.

Caitlin Hewes from Stillwater is an 8th grader who is playing Varsity.

There are quite a few 8th graders making themselves known this year.

Stats as of 1/3

Meghan Lorence, Irondale, 11 g, 13 a

Casey Hirsch, Maple Grove, 7 g, 10 a

Rachel Kelly, Rosemount, 7 g, 6 a

Allison Micheletti, Rosemount, 5 g, 4 a

Abby Lund, Blake 2 g, 5 a

Alyssa Veil, blake 3 g, 2 a

Audrey Hanmer, Forest Lake, 2 g, 4 a

Krystal Baumann, Farmington, 3 g, 1 a

Emily Snodgrass, Eastview, 4 g, 6 a

Sam Lijewski, New Prague, 3 g

Paige Burgeson, Breck, 5 g, 2 a

Kayla Mork, Breck, 2 g, 5 a

Sam Knutson, NSP, 3 g, 2 a

Alex Citrowske, Prior Lake, 3g, 2a

Steph Anderson, NSP, 3 g, 4 a

Courtney Boucher, Hastings, 3g

Morgan Olson, St Francis, 3g, 2a

A few 8th grade goalies out there too, Geissler of Elk River, Laden in Lakeville South.

Most of the above are from A schools or AA schools with perhaps less numbers to draw from for players, as would be expected.

There is a team out there that I've followed for the last few years. They have had large numbers of 7th and 8th graders and few upper-classmen on the varsity, and have only graduated 3 players the last two years. So the expectation was that these young players would improve greatly while other girls their age are still in U12 and U14 and that they would someday become a top-level team. But it ain't happenin'. Why do you suppose that is? Because when EP and Edina and Coon Rapids and Roseville and Stillwater bring 9th and 10th graders onto the varsity for the first time, they are still more advanced than the girls from small programs who have been on varsity since 7th grade. There seem to be many on this forum who don't understand that.

interesting

Post by SEMetro »

I heard somewhere that EP relied upon players that were once 7th grade varsity players at other high schools - not sure if it's true.

Seriously - most of the programs you list, except Edina, will play elite 8th graders on their varsity. But everyone knows that some elite players still choose to play U14's if the program is available.

I think it is somewhat oversimplified to say that "my team is young" and will therefore get better. Almost all girls teams are young because girls hockey is still a two line - top 10 skater sport - even if you have 30+ kids in your HS program. The coach will pick his top 10 players from 4-5 grade levels. It is extremely rare for the top 10 players to all be juniors or seniors at a high school. Usually it is 2-4 girls per grade.
