Looking for Scores

Post by farmdad »

Anyone have the Hastings-South St. Paul score from Saturday? Big game Tuesday at Wakota. Farmington has scored 31 goals in their first 3 games.... South St. Paul is .....well, we all know what SSP is capable of!!! Looking forward to a competitive game (I hope!)

And vice versa for Farmington..... they have not faced a goaltender of Porter's caliber yet....as well as the defense of Robertson, Simones, and others. Still, 31 goals in 3 games has been fun to watch....

give?

Post by hubbaa »

farmdad,

i guess something will have to give. ssp has only given up one goal and farmington is averaging, what? 10 a game!

i think farmington is under rated. i would put them easily in top 5 for class "a".

I expect a good close game that will come down to D and G as much as anything. I don't expect it will be a race to 10.

I believe Farmington is a top 5 A as well - but what do I know?!?!

I am not savvy with the fancy website of GHS's, so here goes nothing (check the Strib or PioneerPress for the official stats):

Edina 3 North St. Paul 3 OT (at NSP)

This was my first time seeing NSP. Thunstrom & Hogan combined for all 3 NSP goals. Edina's were distributed again I believe - team effort.

Thunstrom is indeed very fast, and a good stick handler, but she never digs in the corners for the puck herself. Floats a lot waiting for that breakout, at which she is very dangerous. I wonder how that "floating" thing will fly in college. Hogan plays a complete game on both ends of the ice. I have to wonder how NSP will do next year without their "big two".

Goalie Scavo (sp?) had an outstanding number of saves, but I suspect the number was a bit inflated. I heard something like 48 after 3 periods, which seems like way more than I saw. But I wasn't keeping stats, so who knows.

I have to say the reffing was about the best I've seen in the games I've seen (for Edina). It wasn't perfect (i.e. they had the gall to call a penalty or three on Edina ) but it was evenly called.

P.S. Edina's now got a 3 game unbeaten streak going - 3 ties...sigh!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... ItsNEBG at: 11/22/05 10:42 pm

Farmington lost to SSP 9-0. What happened to the Tigers' offense?

Farmington.......under rated?......hardly. Hubbaa, might want to re-think that comment.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Brett11 at: 11/23/05 2:30 pm

farmington..

Post by hubbaa »

brett,

sorry i won't rethink them being under rated. i think you might be under rating ssp. ssp is a top 5 team regardless of class, farmington is a top 5 team in "a". for most teams there is quite a difference...

saturday game with stillwater and ssp you will see two of the top 5 teams in state going at it. i say ssp by one or two..

I expect they'll be pumped tho...and SSP prolly remembers last seasons lone defeat. Looking forward to this one.

GO PONIES!!!

This game Sat. could be one of the best games all year long. I have seen both teams play this year, and they are both deserving of a top 5 team. South St. Paul is a very well coached team who works there butt off in both ends of the rink. They also have a very good goalie. The only thing I question is that they only skate 2 lines. I don't know if they will be able stay with Stillwater's 3 lines. All of which are extremely fast. ALso, will SSP be able to handle that 1st line of Stillwaters? Jones, Zilles, and Dahl in my opinion, is the best line in the state. THey all 3 compliment eachother very well.

This is gonna be a great game by two very good coached teams. Hope to see you in Stillwater this Sat. at 8:00.

the game..

Post by hubbaa »

fan,

ssp's strength this year is clearly its defense. not only the goalie and the defenseman but the forwards playing a little bit more conservatively. the team has three shutouts in a row against some decent competition. they seem to be adopting well to a more defensive style of play.

stillwater will be a very good test for the team, particularly in the team discipline. with the high octane offense stillwater brings to the game ssp may get off its game and try to play a more offensive open game, as in years past. if they fall into this temptation they will be in big trouble because as you mentioned ssp at forward doesn't have the depth they had in the past.

the winner of the game i think will all depend on how ssp reacts to the stillwater game. if ssp plays its game they win, if they get drawn out of it they lose. whatever happens it should be fun to watch.

19 GF (4.75 avg.) and just 1 GA indicates the Packers are playing pretty solid at both ends. What has impressed me most though is by all accounts they seem to have hit / be in mid season form right out of the gate. After what you'd have to call a pretty drastic change for the team, referring to new leaders / loss of such prominent personnel etc., that's pretty impressive to me. Short answer, still loads of talent on the roster.

I also think this proves what many of us have known all along - that Palmquist is a very good coach. Some doubted that SSP would have any success this year, but I think we can see already that that simply won't be the case...
