Moving season start
So what's the reason why there moving the start of the high school season a week later for, including the tourney now is a week later?

Re: Moving season start
Best guess on my part is Labor Day is later this year. Fall sports may run a week longer because of this?

Re: Moving season start
I can't really make heads nor tails of that MSHSL spreadsheet. What I have found to be the best rule of thumb, which has only been incorrect very infrequently, is that at least one day of the wrestling tournament occurs in February. But it pays to verify the dates. In 1987 Kennedy had far and away their best season. One of their asst coaches missed the state final. When he set his wedding date, he assumed which weekend the tournament would be, but he was off by a week.

Re: Moving season start
This is it. Fall seasons start three weeks before Labor Day, and everything follows from there. Since Labor Day is late, the whole MSHSL calendar is too.BSUBeaver wrote: ↑Thu Mar 26, 2026 11:01 am Best guess on my part is Labor Day is later this year. When I open that link, I see nothing about dates for the boys hockey tournament.

Re: Moving season start
I read it as the week of March 8 for the boys' hockey tournament in 2027...pretty much same as always.bardown27 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2026 7:22 amWeek of March 15th. March 6 week in 2028 and March 5 week in 2029.
Re: Moving season start
You’re right, I followed the wrong column up. Week of March 8th, so the 10-13dueling21 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2026 11:03 amI read it as the week of March 8 for the boys' hockey tournament in 2027...pretty much same as always.bardown27 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2026 7:22 amWeek of March 15th. Re: Moving season start
Then that would be a week later than typical, since it would put the wrasslers entirely in the month of March.
I know I'm usually the dumbest guy in the room, but am I the only one not seeing anything about hockey, or any winter sport, on the MSHSL spread sheet? Are y'all just inferring this about the hockey tournament? In fact all I see on that spread sheet is dates for the current academic year, and then some important civic dates for coming years. It would be nice if MSHSL would just have a page with significant dates for all activities, but I know that's a heavy lift for those folks.
If football opened it's 15 week season on Aug 17, the 15th and final week would be on Nov 23, or the week of Thanksgiving. And there have been plenty of years where the Prep Bowl was on Thanksgiving weekend. It's not even a particularly late Thanksgiving. So I still need some convincing. (Not that anyone should care.)
I about had a heart attack when I saw March 17. In about 1978 the single class opening day was on March 17, and I just can't have two of my major holidays fall on the same day again.

Page two of the spreadsheet is winter sports. About 3/4 of the way down the page is Boys Hockey. Week 1 matches up with the week of November 16, 2026 (week 14), you scroll to the right, and it has the State Tournament in the Week 30 column. If you go up that column, it matches up with the week of March 8th, 2027.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2026 7:36 am Then that would be a week later than typical, since it would put the wrasslers entirely in the month of March.

OK thanks Beaver. I tried another browser and that worked better. But I still only see MSHSL dates for 2025-26, and only civic holidays and some religious holy days for following years.

The 2026-27 dates are the third row on each sheet. 2025-26 are the fourth row, 2027-28 the second row and 2028-29 the first row.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2026 12:17 pm OK thanks Beaver. Yes, that is my point. The line for '26-'27 only has dates for Yom Kippor, Thanksgiving, etc, and doesn't tell me anything about dates for boys hockey.BSUBeaver wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2026 4:28 pmThe 2026-27 dates are the third row on each sheet. 2025-26 are the fourth row, 2027-28 the second row and 2028-29 the first row.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2026 12:17 pm OK thanks Beaver. Must be your browser? When I go to boys hockey and find week 1, I scroll back up to the top of that page and it matches up with November 16, 2026. When I scroll over to the State Tournament, Week 17, it matches up with the week of March 8, 2027. The box under that then lists the different holidays/dates teams have to work around.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2026 5:04 pmYes, that is my point.
