Stillwater forfeits
I see that Stillwater’s record was changed today on the MN Hockey Hub website to 17-6, with some of the games they won earlier in the season changed to losses. I assume this is due to the Conway situation? Weird that the MSHSL would make the team forfeit games he previously played in but allow him to be eligible for the postseason. What the heck?

Re: Stillwater forfeits
Strangeness. Forfeit would mean he was ineligible when he played but somehow gained eligibility as the season went on. Maybe the parents did finally move.

Re: Stillwater forfeits
The two forfeit games were 11/30 against Maple Grove and 12/3 against Eden Prairie. Conway played in both.
Really interesting that the MSHSL rules he wasn’t eligible for those games so Stillwater has to forfeit them in hindsight, but now he’s totally eligible to play without further punishment.
The only thing consistent about the MSHSL’s player eligibility rulings is their inconsistency.

In this case, I actually think the MSHSL got it right. Forfeit the two games he wasn't eligible to play in (meaningless in the scheme of things, but whatever). He couldn't play in what, like 18-19 games? Thats a pretty severe punishment. And finally, he has now successfully met eligibility requirements, so he deserves to go play. Hard to say this isn't fair and just.
The City of Hill Murray is beautiful this time of year
Re: Stillwater forfeits
I kind of thought this would be the case for the game results. It's unfortunate, but it's playing with an illegal roster and deserving of forfeiture.
I don't know the back story of Conway's situation, but quite frankly, I don't care much.

Re: Stillwater forfeits
What is the back story on Conway? Why’d he leave Andover for Stillwater? What transfer eligibility rules did he violate in his “move” to the Stillwater district, and what did he do to right the wrong and get ruled eligible?
I agree that having to sit out 18-19 games because he was found ineligible is strong punishment, but I’m surprised the MSHSL is allowing him to play now, just in time for the postseason. They are basically saying “you tried to cheat the eligibility rules, got caught, but now we’re allowing you to play anyway as your team begins its state tourney run.” I’d think getting caught cheating—especially in an environment where “transferring” in high school hockey in MN is getting out of control—would be worthy of getting ruled out for the entire season.
Personably, I’d actually like to see Stillwater knock off Hill Murray and get to the state tourney this year. I just don’t get this MSHSL ruling and have concerns that it’s another sign that the MSHSL doesn’t seem to care about the transfer culture taking root in MN high school hockey.

He probably wouldn't have played over Cruitt in Andover, or at best would have split games with him.SpreadOut! wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:24 pm What is the back story on Conway? I agree that it's a very odd situation. "Hey, we think we busted you. Sit out for most of the season while we investigate. Yup, we caught you. Forfeit two games, but then go ahead and join the team." WTH?

I wouldn't think he'd be playing in the section tournament either. Huber is doing a good job as it is.bardown27 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:30 pmHe probably wouldn't have played over Cruitt in Andover, or at best would have split games with him.SpreadOut! wrote: ↑Tue Feb 11, 2025 2:24 pm What is the back story on Conway?
