Moorhead Spuds

Post by Spudmania »

Below I have listed the advantages and the disadvantages for Moorhead as I see them and I was wondering what you guys think of the up and coming season for the Spuds.

Disadvantages- Lost 15 seniors and the next goalie in line Beau Christian to Team Illinois, can't win the big game, not much leadership, lack of goal scorers

Advantages- Great JV team moving up, will be tournament tested with home games againist TRF, Wayzata and Hill-Murray and roads games at Duluth East, WBL, Warroad, Centennial, Jefferson and the Schwans Tourney, easy section out side of Roseau, Coaches have tourney experience

So what do you think?

When you say they can't win the big game, no leadership, and lack of goal scorers how good can they be? No very good at all, it is not possible to lose 15 players and have a goalie that has never played varsity and be able to have a successful season. Maybe in a few years they will be competitive but sorry moorhead fans this season is going to be a long one.
The curse lives on.....

I believe it was the 2002-2003 season in which Moorhead lost something like 12 seniors and everyone was saying the same thing. They had no leadership, they lost their senior goaltender and only had their backup returning with only a few games under his belt. That team lost in the Quarterfinals to the Holy Angels but they were still there. I have yet to see them play but they will be fine, they may not be the goliath they were last year, but that was the biggest problem with last years team Everyone had a huge target on the #1 team in the state and they brought their "A" games. This year nobody expects much of them, but Moorhead is always a force to reckon with. If I'm not mistaken the bantam team won both state tournaments a few years back, not an easy task. We will see how Moorhead performs but what makes a better high school hockey team than a bunch of young guys finally getting into the spotlight. I'm sure some of these guys will get your attention now that the '05 class has moved on.

I do believe WBL has a More impressive streak...How many times have you gotten past the Quarterfinals...Oh wait nevermind.

The answer is no

And I do believe that Moorhead is like an East, Jefferson and Warroad in that they have a team every year, no matter what happens. They will always be good and will always be in contention. ER of course wbl looks at their season as this is the year, as does every single of the 152 other hs teams in the state. but personally I do think this will be the year that they can accomplish something much more than a consolation championship.
The curse lives on.....

Spudmania... I'm a moorhead graduate so i'm just gonna say this...

Dont get everybody riled up this early...

We all know that everybody hates moorhead... so do you really need to ask what people think?

Just wait a month or so and let the players show what they can do. They've definitely got the potential to be great, if not this year then surely next year. No need to create any hype that they can't live up to. Scheels' "State Champions" t-shirts might remind you of that...

Take it easy.

What it is... It's Knight Time Baby!!!

Moorhead

Post by rsolway »

Two years ago I saw Moorhead in the state bantam tourney and they blew away everyone. Those kids should be juniors and sophomores now, and if they're still at Moorhead I'd expect them to grow into legitimate contenders by the end of the year. I know nothing about them otherwise, but would be interested in someone knowing the Moorhead team responding. I'd guess they'd be having some growing pains this year but pretty scary by the end of the season.
