Rochester Century Hockey

Post by coloradohockey19 »

Well Rochester Boys, I was wrong about Jake Tripp coming to Rochester. I was wrong all along. I did not think he would leave us. But he has moved on to Minnesota. I was just curioous if any of you guys have had any practices yet that he has attended? If so, what are your thoughts? I told you that I thought he would be better than that Kangas(sp) or whatever his name was. He is a solid goalie and we will definately miss him here.

kangas was the best goalie in the state this year i dont expect some guy from colorado to do what kangas did last season. kangas was that team and brought that team to state. tripp?....uhh.....

Seeing as how hockey1417 started a thread inquiring how Mayo would be this year.

I'd venture to guess that this may be a rumor........perhaps Sioux Fan can give us the real scoop, he seems to have his eyes on Rochester hockey.

Wow i am sick of reading about how he tore his ACL. It was an MCL injury that didnt even take him 2 weeks to recover from. He is already back to his dominating self. Century will have no problem taking the big nine and sectoin 1 championship again this year

Is Century going to play a game at the state tourney if they go? I am in favor of that...

I hope someone besides the goalie shows up if they do make it or I hope someone else goes.
Hockey Nut in So. MN

Erik Ordahl is a nice dman too!

Post by Sioux Fan »

Erik Ordahl is playing some strong defense for us. He will be a Sophomore at Century. Century will have plenty of weapons it is going to be important to compete in peoples faces and bringing the game to them.

I think they will be able to play with anyone in the state. I have not seen this goalie but Bryce Wilcox is definately a good dman. Grimstad Knoepke are very good. What about Ryan Knutson too he is a big strong kid ? I think winning the Big Nine and Section 1 are nice but it would be great to see a High School team from Section 1 go up and compete for the title.. It is there to go get and I know they have the talent to do it. It is important that the boys and coaching staff know it. If they are going to go up and not compete stay home.
Hockey Nut in So. century 05

Post by panther9 »

sioux fan how can you mock century for their game against the spuds last year. they were the no. 1 ranked team in the state at the time. yeah kangas played great but did u really expect the team to walk all over them.
add up the jr. a players and college players from last years mh team and tell me again that the century TEAM didn't make that game respectable

YES, I think they had the players to compete to win not give space and time to the Moorhead guys. When we played the top Moorhead kids in the 17's we beat them like 5-2 but we went after them and fore checked hard. We didn't give them our end of the rink without a lot of trouble unlike the free pass in the neutral zone they got at the Xcel Energy Center. Century did Beat Duluth East in Duluth and they did have several good players that could have made quite a good game of it if they had tightened things up in the neutral zone and actually attempted to forecheck and compete. It was a game that I was sickened by. Although it was very good for Alex Kangas to showcase himself as he is doing well in Sioux Falls. I think Century had a goalie that could have won the tourney and they also had some pretty good forwards that were rendered ineffective due to the fact that the Defense and Centers for Moorhead (I think their best players were totally unhurried and were able to freely navigate in the neutral zone and in their own zone) Being that they are good players they could beat a hard forecheck but they struggled with it in the spring. I would have tried that before I retreated. Century never got any offense going due to the poor execution of a new forecheck that was put in the week before the tourney. They tried to play a very good Moorhead team with a very weak strategy that didn't show the real ability of the Century kids.

Travis Peterson and Andrew Wilcox were very good performers for us in the Advanced 17 tourney so I know they could have scored some goals if allowed to play aggressively. Skippy Holland scored a lot of goals for my Section 1 team and had 40 + for the season I would have liked to see that line and the Grimstad Knoepke line really play aggressively and see what happened. I hope the younger ones get another shot and can show you what they can do.

I don't call 53 - 6 shots on goal differential or something like that a respectable Hockey game. Sorry about that!!!!!! Panther 9 I am not disrespecting the kids I thought they could win the game when I sat in my seat at the Xcel Energy Center...

I always think you can win in hockey if you play harder and think you can and if you get a bounce or two you can. I think the way that Skippy Holland can shoot the puck I thought Century would be able to score some goals. I think Kangas was clearly a premier goaltender. I think that if you play defense 20 feet away from the point of attack you will struggle with anyone let alone Moorhead.

I also don't like the fact that one of my best forwards ever. Skippy Darin Holland is not playing Jr. A hockey and I blame it on the way the game was played. If he had been able to play his game and forecheck hard and shoot the puck the game may have been different.
Hockey Nut in So. I meant close to home. I hope everything goes well with Dave. I think he could have played USHL if he had gotten some of those nice shots off that he can in the state tourney.

I know he could be in Alpena. I think that sucks that they won't release him too!
Hockey Nut in So. MN

If I was Skippy I would try to play for them in Blaine this weekend and see how it goes. Maybe he would do well and another team would want to trade for him. I think he is not getting challenged enough in JR. B here in Rochester. I hope things work out for him.
Hockey Nut in So. MN

Skippys not getting challenged enough in Rochester? He's averaging somewhere around a point a game and playing on second line, that league isn't as bad as you must think it is go check out a game some time. You'd be surprised at the skill that some of those players have.

I know I went to watch a practice. I know who is on that team and I am sure it is not where Darrin needs to be right now. I know it has been a tough decision but I know he loves his dad and that he wants to be close for him and that he still wants to play. If he is 2nd line and not doing as well as he needs to that is to bad too. I really like him and want him to get a chance to do the best that he can do.

Unfortunately life being what it is you make decisions and you live with them.

Hockey Nut in So.
