Do you mean from where do the kids come to make the West Metro Team, because there is only 1 West Metro team, correct? My understanding is that the "West Metro team" was created to facilitate an equal number of teams competing so that 3 teams are at a given location every weekend during league play...but I could be mistaken.

As to which sections the boys will come from to make up West Metro, I don't know. Commissioner Bill Moore would likely know if you need this information. I think his email was posted on another site by SiouxFan just this week....I think it was in the elite titled post somewhere along the line.

The West Metro team was facilitated due to the Section Realignment that was done last Spring. This will allow teams like Elk River (Section 7), Buffalo (Section and Wayzata (Section 4) to be more centrally located, rather than spread across the State.

Are other schools in the West Metro area still assigned to their sections? (Orono, Mound, Rogers, St. Michael-Albertville, etc..)

Can someone please tell me why this team is stacked with buffalo kids and why SCC ALL-STAR goalie Alex Hess, who some how mad select 17's and went on to make the FINAL 51 team, and also was able to attend the MODEL CAMP, was not able to make this team over the incredibly bad buffalo goalie?!! The only reason why I think that the buffalo goalie made it is because the coaches are from buffalo and that would be the reason why all the other buffalo kids made the team as well. But, if anyone else has any other opinions about this team please let me know. Did i mention that the buffalo goalie and all the other players from buffalo are no good!!

I brought this up under another elite II topic when the West Metro team was trying out. Remember, I said I thought that a couple of stronger kids were let go early. And now that Crabs brings up the Cathedral goalie, I might add that I thought the goalie pick was off also. There was another goalie there who had made it to the Select 15's and 16's the past years too, who was much stronger in his movement and skill and he was cut.

My suggestion would be if there is concern here, perhaps bring it up to the elite II general manager....it won't help you out this year, but at least he would be made aware of the "concerns". I also am not sure who was judging. Weibol was NOT judging. There didn't appear to be anyone in the arena that was actually keeping track of anything, like what you typically see. So if the only judge(s) were the coach(es) and they are all from Buffalo, hmmmmmmmmm.....

Also, I have to say, West Metro may struggle this fall, but not because they didn't have the kids to pick from.

Maybe he had a bad tryout? If that's the case then maybe Jason Paul from DM should have been on this years Advance 17, FINAL 51 team instead of Alex Hess because he made the FINAL 51 last year or was it because this year one of the judges for the 2A3AA was from SCC? Also because he attended the MODEL CAMP only means that he turned in his application in earlier then other goalies.

Still what I'm trying to say is that Alex Hess is by far the better goaltender. I mean you would have to see this buffalo goalie to know how bad he is. I have seen squirt goalies better than this guy from buffalo I mean I thought it was a no brainer to put Hess on the team but obviously I was wrong. Even tho Hess didnt have the best tryout (because he had been up north for a month) he still was by far the best goaltender on the ice. Theres no question about it Hess was the best goalie on the ice and the only reason that the buffalo goalie made it was bcuz the coaches were from buffalo!

Crabs,

First, I don't know what your background with goaltending is, but I disagree that Hess was the best goalie on the ice for this tryout. There was another goalie there who was at least as strong as Hess, and perhaps better. The others were less strong than these two. Point here is, he didn't make the cut either. So, perhaps Wayzata and Buffalo have an "in" with this team's selectors....I don't know and don't care. We need to move on. Selection has been made; mistakes are made....arguably some were made in this selection here, but nothing you can do about it, but vent. Sorry, hard to accept but true. I am sure you will be watching the Elite II games results closely this fall.

Prime example of why they can't get this tier II thing off the ground. Last year was pretty much a joke, and this year is looking to be worse.

RIP Tier II....

I think the Elite II league is great. It gets you ready to go for the upcoming season playing against some really good competition in games and practices. You see a lot of kids in this league that could EASILY be playing Elite I but thats where the politics come into play. Alex Kangas played Elite II last year and was the best goalie in the state for the 04-05 high school season and he is now with the SF Stampede and somehow he couldn't even get a tryout for Elite I

I truely hope the commisioner Bill Moore is aware of this site and reads this thread. Having Mike McMillian and his assistant coach and Bantam coach running this team and evaluating is a huge mistake and is not the way to build up this league. This league is a great idea and I hope it continues and learns from the past.

Section 8 had the head coach and manager as well as the head coach from the Junior A Blizzard (Brad Willner) doing the selections. Just think, hockey guys that are not associated with any HS or youth hockey team in the Section (to the best of my knowledge) doing the evaluations, what a novel idea!

RL, you are absolutely correct!!!!

Don't get me wrong, I think that the concept is great, but they need to take it much more seriously, and get it started earlier. There is no reason that they don't have tryouts right after the Tier 1 tryouts. Make is something worth doing instead of a way to get some local boys playing. The problem is if there are some real good teams, and some real bad teams, everybody loses. If they would have just stayed with the HS Section plan, it might be better. OR do it the way the Tier 1 does, year after year..
