Blake Wheeler as a gopher

Post by Ahockeyfan »

Personally I think Blake will succeed his first year as a gopher. I think his training must be the finest as Phoenix has to be closely following their boy.
Anyway, I wanted to find out others opinions. So what do you think?

Blake Wheeler

Just from what I saw in the state tournament 2 years ago when he was a junior, i'll predict he'll have about 25 points next season as a freshman, but I think he might get off to a slow start until he adjusts to the change in intensity level from high school and even junior hockey to the college level.

I think he'll have Gino Guyer type numbers (2:1 assist to goal ratio) over the next 2 years but will be a great physical presence as a forward, something the gophers havent had much of in the Lucia era.

It is pretty hard to make a judgement based on how he looked 2 years ago. Unlike Gino Guyer, Wheeler went to the next level and put up decent numbers on a not so good team in Green Bay. 47 points in 58 games on a team that won 21 games out of 60 and had a fair amount of turnover is not bad.

How good he will be at the U will depend on what line he is on. Playing with a Stoa or a Kessel, Irman should allow him to put up better numbers than what Guyer did in his first 2 years.

I think he will do kinda like what Paul Martin did as a Gopher, but better. Martin started out slowly, but was very good by the end. I think Blake will start out slow, but progress faster than Paul did. Blake is a natural goal scorer and has been successful at every level he's played. I watched him during the World Junior try-outs, he fit in there despite being the second youngest player trying out. Look for big things from him, if given enough ice time.

He'll definitely be given plenty of ice time, no need to worry about that! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">
GopherIce
