Third graders with upside potential

My grandson is two, but I think they will start him in 3rd grade next fall.
BSU has the paper work for full ride to play hockey, but he may just jump to the NBA after finishing high school at the age of 10.

Don't have a 3rd grader, Elliot, but my wife and I were talking about our 3 year old the other day and she is concerned about the development in our local association. We're going to sign her up for Mini-Mites next year as a 4 year old and my wife thinks we should petition the association to move her up to Squirts right away and play with the boys. She's not a believer in this ADM cross-ice stuff and thinks it will hurt her development by not moving up a couple age levels and playing full-ice right way. Playing with older players will speed up her development.

I kind of agree with her. I expect to start fielding calls from D1 scouts in the next couple of years and we should probably have a verbal commitment done by her 11th birthday, depending on how the official visits go.

I've heard there are people in our association that are already upset with us. I don't quite understand it as my child is special and I don't know why they would want to hold back her potential? Anyways, I expect there to be some backlash from the Board about our wishes, who should we complain too? If necessary, we are willing to get an apartment so we have an official address in another association boundary after we burn out our welcome here, would it help to cross the districts too? We're not worried about who we all tick off along the way as we're sending her to a private school once she is high school age anyway. We're not in this game to build friendships or make memories, with all the money we are prepared to shell out we are approaching her budding career as strictly a business decision.

Any advice you could give us on circumventing the rules to get what we want would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I will bring a special rule adoption to the MH board allowing this AND mandating you be the head coach for any and all teams she may play on.

I will also bring it to USAH (cannot guarantee it) that she be given a tryout for the Olympic team after she turns 12.

without mentioning any names a former NHL player was in the lobby of a local arena and a hockey mom recognized him. She walked up to him and explained her mite son was doing well playing hockey and then asked this former NHL player what the chances were of her mite son making in the NHL. The former NHL player was speechless and walked away.

I know most on the board will believe this but for the few that are skeptical, this is true. I was coaching mites at one of our larger metro suburbs a number of years ago. A father approached me after practice and said " I know this may sound unbelievable but my son has the same exact stats as Wayne Gretzky did at the same age"

Been there. 100% believe this to be true.

I bet there is a very good chance this same parent had future issues with unrealistic expectations and was a complete PITA for the association.
