PWAA Playoffs-District 6

Post by youwannaknowme »

I'm trying to find information on the PW AA playoffs for District 6. Are there playoffs? I can't seem to find anything on their website.

From what I can see, it looks like there are not AA playoffs for anyone in Districts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 & 10. The AA teams from ALL of those districts are ranked and the top 24 teams immediately go to "Regions". There are more than 24 teams so there will be several teams that do not have any playoffs. There are 3 regions - West/East/South - with each having 8 teams (the 4th region is the North region and is made up using a different format for a playoff between 11, 12, 15 & 16).

The games are 1 vs 24, 2 vs 23, 3 vs 22 etc. and the top ranked teams are split evenly between the 3 regions so the likely teams that go to State include the top teams. It also appears to be double elimination at Regions.

That's the way I read it at least...

According to the D10 Handbook to advance to a regional tournament you must participate in the District tournament with the Tournament Champion getting a guaranteed seed to regions as D10 #1, runner-up gets D10#2 winner of the game on the backside is #3.

In regional play the loser of the championship game still has 1 more game to play is 2 teams advance from the region a true Double elim would have teams playing until all but 1 team has 2 losses.

From the Minnesota Hockey Handbook (page 42)

Peewee & Bantam AA Region Format
1. The Peewee and Bantam AA Regions will use double-elimination bracketing and each will advance two teams to State. However, the Regions will be configured differently than the "A" and "B" Regions.

2. The North Region will consist of Districts 11, 12, 15 & 16. Each District will send (2) teams to the regional tournament. In the event a district has less than (2) AA teams, the participating Directors will determine how to bring in additional seeds or modify the tournament.

3. The South, East and West Regions will consist of Districts 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. All AA teams in these districts will be ranked after District tournaments are complete. The (24) highest-ranked teams will be seeded to Regions by their rank, with the exception that each District’s #1 seed is guaranteed to be in the 24. Any District’s #1 seed that is below #24 will be pushed up to #24 (or #23, etc.). This would result in some teams ranked #24, #23, etc. being pushed out of the field.

Each participating District Director will nominate (3) Peewee coaches and (3) Bantam coaches to rank the teams. A Selection Committee comprised of (2) District Directors, (2) Tournament Committee members and a Chairman will pick (1) Peewee and (1) Bantam coach from each District. The Selection Committee members and coaches doing the rankings will be made public. Tournament hosts must block rooms if the location is not in the Minneapolis St. Paul metro area.

Peewee AA Region Host Districts 2013-14
North 12
South 5
East 8
West 10

In District 6's handbook, they indicate that there will be NO district playoffs but other districts may be doing it differently.

From D6 rule book:
15.1 The purpose of the District playoffs is to determine which team(s), will advance to the Minnesota Hockey Regional and State tournaments in the event the District can send more than one team. The District 6 playoff system is only applicable to Peewees, Bantams, 12U, 14U. Teams are seeded in the District playoffs according to their final league standings. The Bantam & PeeWee AA teams will not have district playoffs. A selection committee will rank these teams for seeding into regions. (MN Hockey Tournaments – page 42)
