Is AHA in a league of their own?
Is AHA in a league of their own or are there other teams that are up their? I think that when tournament time comes their will be about 3-4 that will be able to compete. I think that Hill Murray, Jefferson, Centennial, and Moorhead will all be able to have good games with AHA. AHA is already in tournament form we just have to wait for the others and we should have a dang good state tournament. No matter what team comes out of 7AA they will be good too.

Re: Is AHA in a league of their own?
They should be, they're ruining the integrity of high school hockey. If I was a part of that program I would be embarrassed if I didn't win the state championship

Re: AHA
To me it's not as so much about about recruiting or even who wins titles. It's about kids growing up playing together and dreaming about playing high school hockey together. I couldn't imagine that making or winning the state tournament is as fulfilling for a kid on AHA as it is for a kid on a team like Jefferson or White Bear Lake when they grew up playing with most of their team mates.

where are they from
can someone post where all the AHA players are from- that would be interesting to see.

Not in a league of their own....this game anyway.

Re: where are they from
I don't think going to a private school and winning the state title is going to diminish the experience for any kid. A kid that changes schools will still be playing alongside of friends but it would be a new group of friends that he will be building memories with.

Re: where are they from
Either way it's a great experience but going with kids you grow up with and have been through everything together with is something special. Going with an all star team is expected.

Re: what league are they in???????
So winning 4-3 in a good game makes them out of this league and a shame to the state of minnesota hockey? They are a team of kids that want to win just as bad if not more than any other team in the state... so I guess winning a state title would be ho hum. Get real.

Re: Never Seems To Matter
Hueg get over it, another newbie. AHA is not in a league of their own, they play in the ame league as all the other teams that have competed in the state tournament. Just because a team is good does not mean they should be in a different league. Todays score was AHA 4 DE 3. That is not necessarily a blowout. Yes the shots were a little one sided and DE got some calls, but in reality DE could have scored the goal to force an OT and then the tables would have been turned.
As far as a kid being embarrassed if they did not win the state championship, isn't that the one of the goals of any team that plays?
AHA probably has a repeat on their list of goals, but it is very hard to repeat.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Re: Big league
technically no...but for real...I think that teams can play with them as long as they don't come out flat....Look at today's game...YES AHA is VERY GOOD, but if u tak away a horrible first period the game is 3-1 and DE wins it...If DE would've come with intesity they probably would've had a good chance at winning...anyways if you dont come to play ull get absoultely murdered in the first, and the resto f the game is up for grabs....

Re: Big league
the game was a complete blowout, the scoreboard may not show it but the shots were 30 something to the teens' for the hounds and the puck was always in the DE end. If AHA doesnt win all of their games this season including the state title, they can call their season a loss because they are damn good to lose a game.
The curse lives on.....

Re: Big league
After watchin the let down by AHA I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose 2-3 games and not win state. They are a very good team but there are better teams out there than DE and if they let East back in the game I can only imagine what a team like Hill would do to AHA. AHA is very good and they have proven that but they are going to need to put 3 full periods together in order to beat other higher quality teams. I also think that AHA's goalie could be a problem. He didn't look that strong against East. AHA needs Barribal and their goalie to have give games game in and game out in order to win the state title and the holiday tourney title

Re: Big league
Holy Angels is definitely not in a so called league of their own.

Put them up against the tougher teams on a consistent basis instead of their weak conference opponents and things would really change.

AHA
So, the common theme I've seen in posts about them is that they are a private school. The reason the kids WANT to play for them is because they have a good coach. This can happen with public schools too, and it does. I'd be willing to bet there isn't a single city public school where the roster is the same all four years, for players of that age, in barely any sports. People move, things happen, and kids want to play where they can win. When public schools have good teams, no one says anything. AHA doesn't recruit, they have kids that want to come there to play for a good team.

Personally
I dont think that they will win state, It wouldnt supprise me to see them get knocked off in sections

Re: Personally
Any team can win on any given night but it was quite obvious to me that AHA is very dominant. Why wouldn't they be? They have the best player's off numerous youth team's. Did you notice the young Mattson kid, only a freshman and outstanding. Washburn is missing him (bantam's or high school). The goaltending was off tonight but I have to think that this was just a bad night for the kid. They might lose a game but they would have to play bad and a HM or someone play very good. I like the comment about the ref's missing a few call's. Only one way? Pious and bad for AHA's program.

"It wouldnt supprise me to see them get knocked off in sections." Are you kidding me? How would the number one team not making it to state not supprise you? And who do you think is going to beat them?

Re: Personally
It was only ahas 5th game. Most teams have 7-10 games under their belt. AHA has not had a tough game to date. The first line and second line guys have not played but a shift or two in the four games this year.

They will get their 3rd quarter legs some enough. They will only get better. Smith has proven to be a good soild goalie, he is a real gamer ask the Moorhead boys.
