I took a shot at projecting what the East Regional would look like at the AA and A level next March based on my perception of what could happen. It is posted at:

Very interesting Fred. But you do agree if things remained with only the A designation, the East Region is "stacked" and MANY top 10 teams will be eliminated in Districts and Regions? And most associations that will only field a single A team next season would have been eliminated by their District schedule or a playin game.
Would love to see you play out the West Regional next! D4,D5 & D9?

That is the point I was making.
In 2012-2013, the South Regional will have D4 with three seeds and no Bantam AA teams, D9 with three seeds and 2 possible Bantam AA teams (Owatonna and Rochester), and D5 with two seeds and 5 possible Bantam AA teams (St. Cloud, MALM, STMA, River Lakes, and Buffalo).
All seven Bantam AA teams will play in the regional and the regional will be short one team. Someone will have decide something.
By splitting the current A level into AA and A, Minnesota Hockey cannot rely on the handbook to cover most situations from year to year as they have in the past. They or someone will have to assume responsibility each year. The Minnesota High School League went through the same process. Remember, the high schools went Tier I and Tier II the first two years they split and had problems.
With a single tourney, the handbook can be used to align districts, regionals, and state tourneys as the participation numbers vary year to year at the bantam and peewee levels. It can be done without someone intervening and with no complaints of bais. With the AA and A split at these levels someone will have to decide who plays where every year just as the high school league does and put up with the complaints as the high school has to.
As a side note, does a South Regional AA tourney with a potential draw for Rochester of MALM, STMA, and River Lakes preceded by potential D9 district playoff wins over the Albert Leas and the Austins represent and improvement in competition for the top Rochester teams?
