MSHSL might have planned it this way because the Minnetonka Girls team could potentially be playing in the state championship at 7:00 on Saturday. They'd gain a lot more money by scheduling them at different times because people will want to go to both.easton18 wrote: They should switch that and have Tonka/Wayzata, aka the best game of the day, playing at 7:30

If you would have told me the semifinal matches and I had to predict the schedule, I wouldn't have gotten one game right.
My prediction would have been:
12 @ Braemar: Wayzata v. Tonka
4 @ Braemar: Jefferson v. Edina
3:30 @ BIG: Armstrong v. Benilde
7:30 @ BIG: Prior Lake v. Burnsville
In the past, they've always kind of split up with one section semi at one of the rinks and the other section semi at the other rink. Would be interesting to know how they come to a decision. I'm not saying they're wrong; just would find it interesting what factors are weighed in and what factors are more heavily weighed.

Edina is the #1 seed in section 2AA if they would have played Chanhassen the game would have been at BIG, since they play Jefferson the #4 seed the higher seed is the home team, Section 2AA Officials and the MSHL willn't allow the lower #4 seed host the game even if they would be the visitor. In years past Edina and Jefferson have been on different sides of the bracket, since they are on the same side of the bracket, this is what they had to do, to make it fair to the higher seed. This is the problem when only 2 teams have rinks that can hold alot of fans, and are in the same section. Should Burnsville's rink be in the mix you can say yes? So all games are at neutral sites. But if you are Burnsville or BIG or Braemar how can you hold that ice for that Saturday where you would get a game between the two teams that are the host rinks. No rink manager is going to hold the ice for that game if needed, and the MSHL will not pay the rink for the unused ice time.Doc Holliday wrote:If you would have told me the semifinal matches and I had to predict the schedule, I wouldn't have gotten one game right.

Yeah, I understood that and even said that in what I would have predicted. The surprise to me is having Wayzata vs. Tonka at BIG when they could have that at Braemar. That game will get a bigger crowd than what Prior Lake & Burnsville will get. I would like to know why the locations of those two games wasn't swapped.shotpassskate wrote: Edina is the #1 seed in section 2AA if they would have played Chanhassen the game would have been at BIG, since they play Jefferson the #4 seed the higher seed is the home team, Section 2AA Officials and the MSHL willn't allow the lower #4 seed host the game even if they would be the visitor. Burnsville's rink isn't big enough to hold a section semifinal for 2AA or 6AA. Frankly, BIG is barely big enough. I know money plays the biggest factor in all of this, but it may be time to start exploring doing a doubleheader at Mariucci for the semis for both 2AA & 6AA, whether it's all four games in one day, or a 2AA or 6AA doubleheader starting at 11 and the other starting at 5, or putting them on different nights. Or possibly Ridder.
I'm guessing that when they didn't need to split up Edina and Jefferson, they probably just decided to have all the 2AA games at one venue and 6AA games at the other.
But yes, typically they have one game from each section at each venue and rotate the game times every year (i.e. 6AA has the early games, 2AA the late ones, and vice versa the next year).
