Minnetonka at Edina 2/4/2012

Post by tonkafan77 »

It seems like for the past few years, these teams have never gone undefeated against each other. While they are already 1-1, this final rubber match game is probably the most important in both team's schedule for the rest of the year. Edina (#5) is undefeated in the Lake Conference so far and if they win on Saturday, they will have smooth sailing to the Title. Minnetonka (#2), on the other hand, is 2-2 in their last 4 games and needs this win if they want any chance at the Title and keeping their #2 position in state. HockeyHub also realizes what is on the line and is calling it the game of the week.

That being said, I do believe the Pagel let-down is still fresh in the Skippers' memory and will come out "buzzing" and hungry. I have Tonka winning 6-3 with an open netter. Edina goes 1-1 this week against EP and Tonka.

Any thoughts?

Yeah, I think you posted this poll three days too early. Or is this the only game that matters this week?

I'm sorry, just thought I'd start it early seeing as how last week, only 3 people posted on it before the game actually happened. Better early than late, right?

As they did with Duluth East, I think Tonka will avenge their recent loss to Edina with a big victory. I'll say Tonka 6-2.

Tonka is a very, very good team but, Edina always seems to come up big in rival games and other big games.

My vote, Edina by 1

Coorect me if I'm wrong, Dave. If I remember right, every single one of Tonka's goals in that game came from the slot where they were uncovered every time. This seems to me like that makes it the defense's fault. While Parker could have maybe stopped one or two more goals, Skoog (an undefeated goalie up to that point) was not the reason for 9 goals to be given up against them. Tonka simply out worked them the whole game, a complete reversal from the first time they played.

Really, who cares? Maybe you should put an asterisk by the score, then everybody will know East really didn't lose.

Who's didn't? Name one "garbage goal" that a "starter" could have stopped?

I just disagree with that one statement you made above.

I recall one goal being scored above the slot, with a slap shot and it was stick side. I do not recall who scored; however, East's goalie should've made the save...

Thank you for confirming my memory, mnmouth.

Getting back to the Tonka and Edina game, I think it will be a close one. Tonka and Edina always have great match-ups, but I predict Tonka will rebound from their recent "slump."

4-2 Skippers

Tonka 5 to 1 (Edina has trouble creating offense)

In the Hockey Day MN Tonka vs East game the one goal that came outside the slot was a slap shot from Lettieri coming down the right side in the 3rd period :D

I like Tonka by 2 in this one.

Tonka was better than East that day and to say otherwise is sour grapes. Sure East had guys out, but that is hockey. East has a great team and will be fine - trying to justify a loss and discredit someone else who beats you is just dense.

should be a great game! I'll give the edge to Tonka in a close 4-3 victory over the boys from Edina

I was not trying to discredit anyone. what I meant was the game probaly would have been closer if DE had full team. minnetonka played a good game. I hope they meet again in the state tournament of course there are no guarantees this will happen.

Right, I forgot...DE is the only team that has any injured players all season long.

I know, let's go through all the games during a season and add and subtract goals for all teams who have injured players. Then, let's take away all the "weak" goals where the goalie "should have made the save."

Only then will we have a true picture of who won the game, and what the "real" final score should have been!

Now away from East's sour grapes and back on topic for this post.

I like a great game at Braemar Saturday. Instant classic.

Tonka 5 Cake 4 in OT.

What's the word on tickets for this game? I'm guessing it will sell out, will they be selling them at Braemar Thursday and Friday?

To be safe, you can purchase your tickets on Friday or Saturday before the game but I highly doubt it will completely sell out. I'm just planning on getting there an hour early on Saturday, I'm guessing that should be fine.
