Team Roster Eligibility

Post by Goose »

Can someone please clarify how many players are required to be rostered on U12A team's?

I have been discussing with a few friends and we have different opinions, I hear any thing from it doesn't matter, to every team must roster 17 players.

Thanks in advance for the thoughts of those who know the rules better than I do.

There is no minimum unless it is the association or District. The only rule on players is the USA Hockey 18 players and 2 goalies allowed on the players bench.

Thanks greybeard58 for the reply, I just looked at the District 6 rules. It looks like in District 6 all team are required to roster 15 plus 2 goalies at the A level.

Although that numeric requirement can be (and often is) waived by the D6 Commissioner. It's hard to get the numbers right for the girls programs from year-to-year so there's a fair amount of flexibility given.

In 14UA, Edina Green has 13 skaters (+ 1 goalie) and Eden Prairie Black has 11 skaters (+ 1 goalie) rostered.

Makes sense.

It does surprise me that Edina would go with less than 17 at U14A (and U12A) because they have so many players. I don't understand why the D6 commissioner would waive teams that have so much depth.

With 5 U12 teams, why would they go with less than the required roster and why would D6 waive them with that much depth?

Can anyone shed any light on that?

Edina has 2 14UA teams.
The 12UA team has 15 skaters.
They have had 2 12UA teams in the past, just not this year.

Eden Prairie also has 2 14UA teams. Like Edina, there is an A1 (Black/Green) and an A2 squad (Red/White).

Spin-o-rama,

The Edina U12A team has 14 skaters, not 15.

They lost a player to Blake varsity over a month ago and never called anyone up.
