KRACH or QRF? - Most accurate?

Post by ghshockeyfan »

Let's put it to the forum as informed experts... I've put the top 25 overall and by class side-by-side for the ranking today.

Difficult to say which is more "accurate" at this stage. Based on what I've observed I think both polls probably have some teams ranked either too high or too low.

As one example, in the combined poll, I would put Roseville at either No. 1 or 2, but these two have Roseville ranked lower because, even though they're undefeated, they don't have any wins over other highly ranked teams - yet. But Roseville's schedule is about to get a lot tougher, with upcoming games against Edina, WBL and then the Kaposia Tournament. My guess is they'll do pretty well in these games and by the end of the year both KRACH and QRF will recognize their true ability.

I agree. I intentionally left the notion or definition of accuracy vague for this reason. There really are at least a couple "accuracy" questions:

1) Which one reflects what has transpired to-date most accurately?

Meaning, only considering games played so far - and some teams haven't faced the tough(er) part of their SOS. We have to remember that these only look at the games played and the results of those games to rank the teams using two different algorithms.

2) Which one reflects your personal feeling about how the teams should be ranked eventually?

Meaning, once they get into and through the meat of the schedule - where then should they be ranked?

In some cases the rankings are tracking together - i.e. have good mutual precision - but their eventual accuracy remains to be seen until later in the season. So, maybe they both are very precise – but ultimately horribly inaccurate. Time will tell…
