I think we should just call class "A" "the private party".
In the final regular season rankings the following sites rank the teams this way from 1-10 top teams:
Hockey Hub- 6 out of 10 Private
Follow The Puck- 6 out of 10 Private
USHSHO/HSHW- 5 out of 10 Private
On all these sites 4 out of top 5 fall into the private sector
How is the classifying schools by enrollment working out for the MSHSL? I know, I know, they are just playing where they are told to play. Either play "AA" or put them all in one section come end of the year so the real "A" teams have a shot at doing something special.
I don't see how they can say Becker-Big Lake and River Lakes are AA and STA, Warroad, Breck and Blake are A. It's not going to change, but some common sense would be nice.

This topic is old, but I agree. Lourdes should be playing AA also. It's apples and oranges to me - a team like Hibbing or Little Falls or New Ulm or Delano is different than STA, Breck, Blake, Totino Grace, and all the other privates. I can at least respect Holy Angels and Hill for moving up to AA. I might not like them and cheer against them, but at least they play against the bog boys like they should.

Well put Howie couldn't of said it any better. A little info about the class A state tournament in the past, a private school has won it seven out of the past ten. (so proud of those private schools ...NOT)
Sheetice, it's a little different when you say this: In the last 11 years, of teams still in Class A 3 private schools have won titles, and 2 public schools have. Is it private schools in general or is it a handful of private schools?

The issue is finding a rule that places schools like St Thomas, Hill Murray and Holy Angels in one class but not Sleepy Eye, New Ulm and Providence Academy. You won't hear much argument from anyone when that happens, but I don't know what you'd do to make that happen.

simple.. because becker-big lake and river lakes have AA enrollments. the other four do not. i do agree however that all privates should be put in AA or something like that

"A" High School Hockey is a joke the way it is set up. Have's and have nots. The top 8 Junior Gold A teams could beat most HS class A teams, and the top class A teams could beat most AA teams.
The whole thing was orchestrated by rich people with kids would couldn't crack the top teams in the big schools.
It should have been set up for the small towns with small enrollments, but the money idiots ruined it like the do everything.

Yes, the MSHSL is totally controlled by "rich people" who set up the classes just so their own kids could excel in all sports! It's an evil conspiracy against "poor people"! Down with the masses!

Warroad? What are they doing wrong? Becker-Big Lake has a combined enrollment of 1730 9-12. Warroad has 398 9-12.
Sounds like you want to reward Becker Big Lakes lack of effort with a trip to state.?
Some ppl want everything for free.

As someone who supports a team that plays class A, I don't want to see all the best teams be forced up or pressured to play class AA. A lot of people already say that A hockey is so thin that to win it is meaningless. If you make something like 5 private schools opt up than there will be 1-3 teams a year with a realistic shot. And saying that 4 or 5 of the top ranked teams this year are private doesn't matter. It usually is not like that. Last year only 2 of the top five ranked teams were private with Breck and STA, and 3 of the 4 semi final teams were public.
This year you have Lourdes and Blake who are in the top five but last year in the tourny Lourdes got beat like 9-2 in the first game. And it's been 3 years or so since Blake made the tourny; the last time they did they lost in the first round. Being private doesn't mean you'll be good in hockey. Some private schools haven't made hockey a priority. And some of the ones that have in class A, like Lourdes and Blake, haven't won a title at all or not at least not recently. Why make them move up when they haven't shown they are the best in A first? Makes zero sense to me.

Didn't say anything about rewarding any school. Just don't think of BBL as a hockey power, but don't understand your comment about lack of effort? Also I don't think I said these A schools are doing anything wrong. There are a lot of factors in a hockey program, other than just enrollment.
I swear that I've read this stuff this same time last year. Deja vu times 5 I guess...
I really think that Holy Family, St. Paul Saints, SPA, Legacy Christian, and Minnehaha Academy would appreciate a move to AA. Where do some of you get your ideas from?
Don't let STA, Lourdes, Blake, and Breck control your emotions too much on this issue. Besides, some of you complain that the teams in the Class A tournament aren't good enough (bs). Imagine how much worse the Class A tournament would be if it weren't for private schools?

So you are telling me that the 1700 kids at bbl are bad at hockey for some reason other then effort?

25, I see what you are saying and I completely agree.
I wouldn't have chosen to say they have a "lack of effort" type of game, but I do agree many people want things given to them rather than earning them.
If Warroad, Lourdes, Breck, and Blake all move to AA (thinning the Class A competition and luster even more) IT WILL be called Class JV.

I didn't say they were bad. But the answer to your question, yes.

With tongue-in-cheek it is referred to as the JV Tournament
Why would they rename it the JV tourney up north? How many AA teams are past Elk river to the north, like 5? And oh by the way, Hermantown throttled Rapids and could beat most AA teams up north on any given day. Not to mention what Warroad has done to those AA teams in the past.
