8AA Play-In

Post by karl(east) »

I know it's not a very important game in the grand scheme of things, but I wanted to bring a little attention to this game that most of us probably ignored completely.

River Lakes won 4-3 over Becker-Big Lake; it's RL's fifth consecutive win over BBL in the section playoffs.

The game went 3 OTs.

River Lakes outshot Becker-Big Lake 106-45. (71-19 in regulation; 35-26 in the OTs.)

RL went up 2-0 in the first, and teams then played a scoreless, penalty-loaded second period. But in the 3rd BBL woke up, scoring 30 second into the period, and again 9 and 13:45 minutes in.

Less than 20 seconds after Adam Hayes's shorthanded goal game BBL the lead, Austin Athmann buried the tying goal for RL. Mitch Ejnik won it at 5:14 of the 3rd OT.

RL goalie Andrew Gloseclose made 42 saves over the course of the game for the win. But that pales in comparison to what BBL goalie Alex Darsow put up with.

He made 102 saves on 106 shots...only to lose.

These players may not get any recognition anywhere else, and those of us accustomed to watching the top AA teams would probably barely even recognize it as high school hockey. But for these kids, it was anything but irrelevant. They gave it everything they had in a ridiculous game, and for that, they've earned at least one admirer.

=D>

If this is how the AA playoffs start, I can't wait to see what comes next...

 102 saves? Wow, great effort Mr Darsow!
Thanks Karl for highlighting this. It should be a great playoff tournament (the greatest show on ice it is).

You're not the only, nor the first. He was getting some credit on another topic. Best goalie, i believe.

That is an amazing amount of shots... :!:

One thing I note, is look at the shots in regualtion vs. the shots in OT...
71-19 in regulation; 35-26 in the OTs
Becker-Big Lake started to even things out in OT... In regualtion they were getting outshot quite handily...

Thank you for bringing this to us, I would have never looked at the stats sheet on hockey hub for this one!

I really hope you are kidding!!!! If not, what a waste of words on this forum.

Think about the stories these kids will have to share for the years to come!

Congrats to both teams!

102 saves in one game! That has to be the single game record, right? Does anybody know for sure?

As in NATIONAL record, I'm thinking. However, their seems to be some conflict in stats. Last year Axel Osborn was given credit for breaking the National record in a 6-time 111 mn game with "only" 58 shots. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/a835_iYmEd ... y-game.htm Hockey hub would show that that is not correct unless I am missing some difference in WHAT they are saying and am not comparing apples to apples? After all, I am just a mom. I probably know nothing! ha! ha! btw, my son would KILL me if I posted his accomplishments since he was 1 yrs old!

GREAT JOB ALEX! I hope it is a NATIONAL record. Congrats on a great game!!! =D>
