No Peewee Checking? - the other reason hockey would change
If checking leaves the Peewee, level one other aspect of the level will change. More girls will be playing boys hockey. Girls numbers are already a big problem in most associations, now picture the occasional team with a girl player, with no checking, many girls/parents will opt for Peewees and most Peewee teams will have several girls lacing it up in the locker room. Right now there are very few associations that can loose any girls and not cause extreme turmiol in there association. Girls"12A" hockey will really suffer.

Probably should be under Minnesota Girls Youth Hockey forum.Puck Hog wrote:If checking leaves the Peewee, level one other aspect of the level will change. More girls will be playing boys hockey. I think it might have just the opposite effect for the girls teams.Puck Hog wrote:If checking leaves the Peewee, level one other aspect of the level will change. If checking was moved to Bantams only, why would USA hockey allow Girls to continue to play Boys hockey if the rules for each group were now exactly the same?
I think the skill levels for all Girls teams would greatly improve if the top few girl players in each association that currently play boys peewee hockey stayed with the Girls teams.
They would also improve if local high school teams would let 7th and 8th graders continue to skate with youth hockey teams to develop instead of rushing them into the JV ranks to help with numbers.

USAH would not deny girls playing in 'boys' hockey.blindref wrote:I think it might have just the opposite effect for the girls teams.Puck Hog wrote:If checking leaves the Peewee, level one other aspect of the level will change. This will not change.

Girls on boys teams???
One reason, there is no girls team nearby.
Second reason, they can skate and have stick skills that make them competitive or better than boys at squirts AND the size speed thing has not caught them yet.
Third, their father's think it is the best for them.
Fourth, they have always played with the boys team.
Fifth, .......................
Boys, cannot play on girls teams.
There is no boys' division of youth hockey.

Don't you just love the blatant "reverse discrimination." Girls get to have their cake and eat the boys' cake too. Boys get to have their cake, but it's not technically just their cake...and they better stay the hell away from the girls' cake. What's good for the gander should be good for the goose, too, technically.elliott70 wrote:Mnhockeys wrote:What are the reasons that some girls play on boy's team? I'm just saying that it is inherently unfair that there is no "boys division" of youth hockey while there is a "girls division." Take away the checking in PW's and you will undoubtedly get more girls playing PW's, yet boys still have no other option. Would most want to play in a girls league? Probably not, so why do they have to give up spots for the girls to play in their "non-existent boys division." Such a double standard. And that's not to mention the need for separate changing areas/times for the girls that play on the "boys" teams, and female locker room monitors just to address this situation. More time, more money, more inconvenience.nhl'er wrote:How about for boys that don't want to check! Great, that is the answer to the "checking or no checking at Peewee level"! Two leagues - checking for boys and girls who are allowed to check; non-checking for both boys and girls who are Not allowed to check. Just kidding ... it is not going to happen.nhl'er wrote:How about for boys that don't want to check! Size Matters!
PeeWee's is a great age to learn checking. The kids are smaller and weigh less. The difference in size at the Bantam level is too different, and more kids would get hurt. I hate to think that a kid 6'0 ft tall and 180 lbs might be learning to check for the first time against a 4'6" kid who barely weighs 85 lbs.
Girls playing with the boys should never have been brought into the conversation. Girls who play with the boys are true "hockey players" and should be allow to play there. Girls who play with the girls prefer a more feminine level of play and should be called "girl hockey players". If you can take the hits, you should be able to play at the higher level!!!!!
