Duluth East vs. Duluth Central at Amsoil Arena 1/3
I can't wait to see this arena, but I'll have to wait til the 7AA semi's. Who is going for this Grand Opening event? Some really nice pictures I found online from the UMD/UND game: http://jrosvold.photoshelter.com/galler ... SBmThtEkI8

I saw the arena is on the right (south) side of the building. Appears to be just an extension, not actually taking the place of anything.rapidsrapids wrote:I can't wait to see this arena, but I'll have to wait til the 7AA semi's. Was anything inside changed and this was just added on?
What did they do with the old DECC arena ice; just going to keep the area for concerts, or what?
Also, how is capacity compared to the old arena?
I think your being a little generous to central on that score.east hockey wrote:I was at the Bulldogs opener, and I'll be at the East-Central game. Looking forward to sampling some of the new food offerings! Oh, and watching East beat Central by four goals, of course.

Also. On tv it said the game was at 730. But online it said 8. Confirmation?
Re: Duluth East vs. Duluth Central at Amsoil Arena 1/3
No it's a $80 million new arena. Seating is like 1500 more than the decc and is incredibly nicer. Obviously. New parking ramps etc. Look ip amsoil area a facts on googleHShockeywatcher wrote:I saw the arena is on the right (south) side of the building. That was my reaction to the score prediction too.mj79 wrote:I think your being a little generous to central on that score.east hockey wrote:I was at the Bulldogs opener, and I'll be at the East-Central game. The East activities page says 7:30, so I'd go with that.
Very excited to see the new arena for the first time; it'll be my only chance to see the place this season. I'll probably get there early to explore the thing.

I understand the Amsoil arena is totally new. I saw it, the building looks way different. I'm curious what happened with what they have and if anything else was changed, or was it simply added onto the building not changing the old hockey arena to the north and the theater arena to the south?mj79 wrote:No it's a $80 million new arena. Re: Duluth East vs. Duluth Central at Amsoil Arena 1/3
Nothing has changed. The DECC will stay as is; the Duluth 10 Theaters will stay as is. The Amsoil Arena is not an addition; it is an entirely new building. It gives Duluth the ability, by using both the DECC and the Amsoil, to have multiple events on the same night. A hockey game and a concert, as an example.HShockeywatcher wrote:I understand the Amsoil arena is totally new. I saw it, the building looks way different. If you can get your hands on last Thursday's Duluth News-Tribune, there is a very nice pull-out section devoted to the Amsoil including the layout, how it was built, comparisons to other WCHA arenas and so forth. It's worth a read.

Same here.. Thankfully the East / EP game is on a saturday so I can make that one too.. Love the new arena.. And Im assuming the atmosphere for an East/CEC section game would be great.. Actually I wish all east/cec games were at the oil cankarl(east) wrote:That was my reaction to the score prediction too.mj79 wrote:I think your being a little generous to central on that score.east hockey wrote:I was at the Bulldogs opener, and I'll be at the East-Central game. Final: East 7, Central 1. I had the predicted margin correct (four) until that little scrum late in the third period which gave the Hounds a five-minute power play. They scored twice during the PP.
Decent win for East. Some cute play which didn't have to be quite so cute; sometimes a shot on goal and crashing the net works.
Central/Denfeld fans don't like East much, Jake Randolph in particular.

Decent game, great chance to see the new arena. It doesn't seem any bigger than the old DECC, but that's because all the seats are right on top of the ice, which should make for a great atmosphere come section playoff time. I'd love to see an East-Cloquet game here (so long as the East fans remember how to chant things, as they were very quiet tonight.)
As Lee said, East got a bit too cute at times, and they got bogged down for a little while in the 2nd, too--the defense still has some room for improvement. But they also had some very pretty passing displays, particularly on the 2nd goal, which was a work of art. It was also interesting to see Randolph break out the all-sophomore line, which put in a couple of goals tonight. He has a lot of options with all those talented forwards, so we'll see what he settles on for the stretch run.
The fight was an interesting one....a few Central players were not enjoying losing very much. I'll restrain myself from saying more.

Don't restrain!! As usual. Central/denfeld turned into hacks. I was right above it ( above the east bench ) and KNEW talarico would get in the mix like he always does. I do wish east was a little tougher of a team. They usually win the game but not the fights.
Highlight of the game other than the 3 way passing play goal was actually centrals. Well the 3 huge stops jojo made, before it eventually went in. He was allllll over the place.

Nice to see has as much class as his team. 2 peas in a pod.dlhhockey wrote:7 years and 11 days (but who's counting)houndshockey11 wrote:First time Central has scored against East in how many years?
Very lame that Smalley wouldn't comment to the paper after the game. Really coach? Hopefully you had a lot to say to your players after the game...
I must say having no glass between the penalty boxes is a great idea...
East missed at least two goals because they made one extra pass in front of an open net. Trevor Olson, Dom Toninato, and Jake Randolph are really coming on. What I like about East is that this year they can actually convert breakaways, Olson and Randolph had two very pretty breakaway goals.
As luck would have it, the same Central mom that told me she was going to fight me last year, sat in front of me again this year. She kept screaming about how East was paying off the refs, no class, and how one of the goals should a been disallowed because the puck was in the goalies pads. Clearly watching the replay it wasn't.
Typical Denfeld cheapshots and lack of class when they get down, and it was pretty funny when the referee threw the Greyhound Reject down. I do miss the days when Forbort would just put kids in a headlock and hold them till they cooled off a bit.
I have to say that the East student section sucks. Quite a lame duck senior class this year. Didn't hear one chant, whereas in years before we would have been ripping them apart. Central was terrible too for that matter.
The Oil Can is ok, really not designed too well. Crammed way too many seats into too small of an arena.

Olsens goal.. Meh, kinda looked like he missed it a bit, but it still went in.. Randolphs goal was pretty tho.. We do need another Forbort, or some kind of 4th line enforcers.. Easts student section was a ghost.. Cenfeld was just loud and ghetto as usual.. Nothing changes there
I still hope to see Talerico laid out cold on the ice sometime this year..

The Areana IMO was awesome.. There is more leg room but the seats width is still crammed.. Then again so is the X.. Such a good place to play hockey tho, the atmosphere is great , as is the viewing

Denfeld has more class then East will ever have ! Why dont you puppy fans show same !! You have a good hockey team. But as always you east fans show no class. Look at the posts here. Its ok keep thinking that your so much better then every one else. It really shows who has real class. Oh wait your east fans !

"We will fight you." And "daddy's money" chants didn't win the game for you now, did it?barnorthhockeyguy wrote:Denfeld has more class then East will ever have ! Why dont you puppy fans show same !! Whos not showing class? pretty sure we just all stated a pretty obvious observation.
