Keys To Having A Drama Free Season

Post by hockeylover17 »

We all know that drama seems to happen on the girls teams more than the boys and usually once they are getting into the older ages. It may tear a team apart and be the cause of a horrible season for your child. There are alot of ways to control or even get rid of it and here's a few that seem to work alot.

1.) Hold a team meeting to let each player say something that's bothering them while the coach writes it down. If it comes up more than once than that's something that needs to be talked about first. Make sure everyone respects what the players are saying and try not to let them interrupt. Go over the issues and try to have the players come up with a solution that everyone agrees on.
2.) Tell them that they are lucky to be playing with the team they already have. List the positives about the team and than say what the negatives are and how it seems to be ruining the team's morale. If you go into depth and let the players know that there should be no drama as a team they will get the message and hopefully stop the drama.
3.) Tell them that you are dissappionted that they are acting so immature and that the team is their family and that's no way to treat a family. That's all you have to say because the players will feel guilty and will want to try to solve the problem so your not dissappionted at them.
4.) Have team bonding nights. Let it be differnt things not just a party all the time. Have things where they have to rely on eachother or they need to know things about eachother. This will let the players know more about the others and hopefully they will use their skills of teamwork on the ice.

That's just a few that i've used in the past and seemed to work. They are not the best but they do help in ways. Hopefully this will kinda help and hopefully some of the coaches can find other ways to stop drama because we all know as a parent that it's not fun to watch a team that doesn't play or the players are always complaining about one another.
