Gatorade Replay

Post by Mitch Hawker »

It seems that this idea of replaying high school games years later is catching on...for better or worse.

They are replaying a Michigan HS hockey game next that was halted while tied (due to a serious injury).

I'm not endorsing the idea, but....

Does anybody have nominations on Minnesota HS games that should be replayed (and why)?

Perhaps a #1 Catholic team vs. a #1 Public team from before the merge?

Seems we have heard some talk here over the years about how good some of those private school teams were....only problem is that the players would be in their mid 50's now.

Agreed. The goal that wasn't in the 2nd OT. Also AHA-Moorhead 2005 and AHA-Centennial 2004 had disallowed goals that may have changed the outcome of the tournament.

It's not exactly what you asked for but on a related note, a High School Alumni tournament was just hosted in Oregon, WI and they had 16 teams participate and I guess it was an absolute blast. There were current and former NHL players, AHL players, just guys with regular jobs, college kids, juniors, you name it and there was a mix of everything on each "High School" team. It was really cool. It was a "LaBatt's Tournament" and it was for Wisconsin High Schools only in this case. Do you guys do similar things up there in MN?

Probably can't find a video for this, but the championship game in 1971 between Roseau and Edina was really good.

Score Edina 1 - 0 Roseau

It really was as I understand it. With each player playing for his former high school. A few teams had committments from former players playing D1 currently but their college coaches told them "No" but they still came and watched and cheered them on even though they couldn't be on the ice. Oh well, such is the life of a scholarship athlete I guess. But from what I heard this was the inaugral event but the event might double in size just next year. According to the flyer I saw they had a beer tent outside and live music the whole weekend, it was a big to do. I think I'll have to check it out next year, sounded like alot of fun.
