Winning Teams/Programs
Winning Teams/Programs
Some teams always seem to get the job done and it's because they have a good team concept from coaching on down to the 3rd and 4th lines. Whether it's good, bad or ugly, they just get the job done. Right now there a couple of programs that stand out. AHA, Moorhead and Warroad to name a few. Some teams have the Sports Illustrated jinx, they get talked up but can't carry the torch. (WBL and TRF). Don't underestimate Warroad and Moorhead even though they lost a ton of talent from last year. And AHA, well they just know how to win and also have a lot of talent back, not to mention excellent coaching.

Successful Programs
Let's face it - AHA, STA, Breck, HM are more about recruiting than developing and sustaining a prgram. AHA is effectively drawing from a population base of 500,000 to 1 million. Community based programs - such as Northfield, Shakopee, Warroad, TRF are having to rely on their amateur program to develop players. Small programs often only have 30 kids trying out for teams which makes teams like Warroad, Roseau, Moorhead amazing.

Even teams like Eden Praraie (vitrually a small college) have a tough time competing against the effective recruiting of AHA. I'm not dissing AHA but we should be honest when comparing.

Re: Successful Programs
If you are going to be honest, rewrite your post. You mis-spoke a couple of places. You are correct that they draw from a large number of areas, and the key word is draw. They do not recruit, and I believe that Trebil has something to do with their development. Not all the kids in the AHA program come from good youth programs. Trebil knows how to take the talent each player has and use it the way it should. Then he uses his coaching staff to develope the rest of the player hidden in themselves.
Oh I forgot. There are no politics in this program. If your kid can play, he needs to keep his grades up or he does not play. There is none of this parent pressure I see in the youth organizations.
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... >Zamman at: 12/10/05 9:14 am

So basically I see a lot of jealousy here...... I am not on drugs and the ref reference works for lots of teams....
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Easy now, the guy that swallowed his whistle has 8a and aa roots. See what happens when you get too much sun.;

If you let money, politics and selfserving parents run your youth program, it won't matter if you have numbers, community support and alumini support.
Good programs have a proven system that creates an environment for its players to acheive their full potential and in turn is the fuel needed to create excitement about wanting to be a part of it. Near the end of my competitive playing days, the wing on my line was from Roseau. I asked him one day what it was like playing for Roseau? His reply was, "You didn't want to be on the team that didn't make it to the State Tourney".

I can tell you this much: from what I read in Blades of Glory, Jefferson's youth program lost some momentum after Trebil left for Holy Angels. H-M does not recruit either, I can tell you that for a fact. I cannot speak for any other programs, but I do not think it is necessary because this topic gets real old, real fast.

And about the grades, a 2.0 is needed, or the kid cant play.

Re: Don't forget the refs!....by SS
No parent pressure for AHA? The kids that play for a team like AHA are the families that went shopping for championship.

Re: hillhockey
If you read "Blades of Glory", there is referance to the fact that AHA DOES recruit, they just don't break rules bad enough for the hammer to come down.

Re: and about the grades
2.0 GPA is what is required by MSHSL for athletes to be able to play, correct? This is statewide, guys.... Does AHA require a higher GPA, Zamman?

Re: hillhockey
Sorry, but Blades of GLory is a book by a Saterdalen favorite and has only his opinions in the book. I know I have read it and I have talked to the author....
________________________________
Academy of Holy Angels
2005 GIRLS STATE CHAMPS!
2002 & 2005 BOYS STATE CHAMPS!!
GO STARS!!

Re: Winning Teams/Programs
Bulldog that is exactly right. I have an idea of what you are talking about and i agree. I mean what i like to see is the kids come up through there respected youth hockey teams and stay with the boys they grew up with and hope for that state title. I think all the pressure is on the kids now.."oh my team is doing crappy so i think i'll just switch schools and play for a power house team". Thats all it is these days. Well that would be my point and how i see it, where kids grow up is where i think they should play there high school careers. Im sick of seeing these power house private schools win every year because they are pretty much an "All star team". Well thats what i have to say...
